Title: Bitmain Ant Miners
Post by: mr.mister on March 26, 2017, 03:07:05 PM

What would happen if bitmain decided to produce miners that only worked with BU? Could they eventually shut CORE down. Would this approach have an impact since they are the biggest supplier of miners?

If BU splits, the odds are higher that Core would make Bitmain's equipment incompatible with Bitcoin as opposed to Bitmain freezing out half of their customer base.

Honestly, Bitmain can't have an accurate image of how many of their customers really support each side. Even attempting to do such a thing would freeze their sales from an unknown part of their customer base and likely drive away many more due to extreme lack of impartiality and unprofessionalism.

Both are sha 256,so how can it NOT work mining either coin??

Just choose a pool to mine for either right??

BU doesn't involve any change to PoW though - and I doubt that any proposal to change the PoW will ever get significant support from miners.

no business in its right mind would shut the majority of their customers and potential customers out
Bitmain would ,most likely, take the winner's side (even if the HF occurs, which is not happening any time soon it seems)

This seriously belongs in the Speculation thread....

more like to WTF thread.

And yes Bitmain will take winning side. Even joining BU is just for profits and they aren't risking much there. Shutting down customers would be a bad idea. This would just jack up prices of used AntMiners.

BU vs CORE should have ZERO effect on any existing antminer - it's still the same SHA256 protocal that the miner is processing.

I'm also 100% certain that the S9/T9/R4 at least have already updated the controller software to support BU *IF* it actually DID require such a change, since AntPool has decided to support BU.

not that this thread is a possible future , but with BMMiner , one could certainly make a preference set / blacklist. Bitmain won't do that though, they may have taken a position, but they won't forgo profit

What?? So then you need to buy a complete different miner??

Last little fork, only thing that changed was the pools............all miners could mine either fork at the pool of their choosing...........
