Title: Want to upgrade my miner, GPU compability question Post by: Freeman87 on March 28, 2017, 09:26:07 PM Hello everyone,
as the title says id like to upgrad my old miner. Or better turn my old computer into a miner. Im using asrock pro btc together with a r9 290 sapphire. Now i got my hands on a msi r9 390 8gb gaming that solely runs at 30kh. What im wondering is (1)if i can run them together? (2)what 2 cards i should buy to round up. Can i buy 2 470 8gb and run them along the r9 290 and r9 390? As the 390 would cost me quiet alot more. Thanks for your help Title: Re: Want to upgrade my miner, GPU compability question Post by: Ambros on March 28, 2017, 09:31:47 PM 1- Yes
2- Yes It's a damn short answer, but that's it :D Title: Re: Want to upgrade my miner, GPU compability question Post by: QuintLeo on March 29, 2017, 01:52:36 AM Mixing generations like that will work if you use a driver version that supports both.
It won't be as stable as a general rule though as sticking with same-generation cards. For reference, the HD 77xx/78xx/79xx, R9 2xx, and R9 3xx count as the same "generation" as they were all based largely on the same GPU from one "marketing generation" to the next with no more than a "faster ram and bios change between each "marketing generation". A 290/390 to stay the same generation or a 470/480 as they seem to be alot cheaper.
Im tending to upgrade with 2 470s |
