Title: Card Sick, 10+ hours trying no solution
Post by: garretthaae on March 30, 2017, 10:00:31 PM
Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to read this and possibly help me out.

So here is my problem. I am making some 6 gpu rigs.  I have made a few and they are working.  I did these with MSI.  I recently bought some ASUS RX480 8GB cards.  I cannot for the life of me figure out why some of the cards get sick after a short period of time after hashing.  I have read that this means that it is a software or config problem.

So currently I have Intensity set to 1024, Gpu-Engine Set to 1291, and Memclock Set to 2000.  If i set up all my cards there is usually one that just gives out and goes sick.

I have checked the riser and even swap them out with new ones.  I have even swapped the GPU out with new ones, still the same problem.

I am using PIMP OS.

Please let me know if you have any ideas.

Thank you

not all cards and run the same memclock speed
it all has to do with what brand of memory the gpu has
like my msi armour cant overclock to 1945 without errors
but my msi gaming can do it without any issues
bring down the memclock and see where you stand after that

set it back to normal like you took them out of the box.  if they work and pretty sure they will, then you problem is your over clock.  do one at a time.  Like one every 12 hours or so.

Ugh, I am now at 1900MHz mem clock, still not stable yet.  These are stock cards.

Are you dual Mining?

They won't

The white 8 gb have good and shit .

I have a star and a bum.

Try 1000 core. And 1800 memory

Yeah, it's the white card.  They seem to be God awful.

One of mine is great clocks high and can dual mine

The other I am returning.

oof, if this is the white plastic casing ASUS Dual series RX480, this confirms my similar experience with this card the past 2 weeks.  I've had nothing but headaches with this card.

It will hang or restart the rig after 1.5-2.5 hrs of dual mining, with zec, it can mine much longer but will eventually crash.  I believe it is some unstable design of the card that has huge power spikes, hence causing system restarts.

I've tried many different configuration of undervolt/clock, but still can't get it to run stable.  Unfortunately i think this line or batch of card has a flaw, or very hit or miss on quality. I'm returning mine.

Sending a white asus 8gb back today, nothing but instability issues at stock and underclocked settings.
