Title: ASIC Quality and Undervolting
Post by: Truthchanter on March 31, 2017, 02:13:46 PM
In regards to the AMD rx series gpus, how much do you factor in asic quality when undervolting (when using predefined core clock like 1150clock)?

I have been ignoring asic quality but it seems maybe I could undervolt my higher asic cards a bit more... so i'm wondering like what metric or how much further they can be undervolted...

Let's say a card with 70% asic is stable at 920mv... would a 80% be stable at 900mv? 880mv? Lower? How much does asic quality even matter for this?

Not quite what you're asking but for nvidia 750 Ti's and 970's I didn't notice ANY connection between OC stability and ASIC quality. For the 1xxx series you can no longer see ASIC quality. AMD and undervolting might be completely different though.

Yeah I'm curious about the AMD undervolting, thanks though.

ASIC quality matters, but not a lot. There's nothing definitive about what voltages/clocks you'll be able to reach that correlate directly to ASIC quality.
Just buy a high quality card that has good VRMs, such as those from XFX and Sapphire (for RX series), they tend to be more stable across all configurations and cooler. The Gigabyte RX 480 for example has a much higher stock voltage when under load.

In my experience, with lower asic quality, you can downvolt more.

Sounds like you mean you can use a greater offset since the default voltage is higher with lower asic.. but figuring set voltages.. I'm guessing you wouldn't want to set a lower asic to 900mv whhile a higher one is 920mv... but maybe the opposite.. I'm trying to figure out how much the difference can be
