Title: How do you guys get GPU's to fit into these X1 slots?

Im not sure how its done but I have read on here that some can get an X16 card to fit into a X1 slot. I also have an X1 extender cable to help. I searched for a guide but cant find one.

1. Plug riser lead in to slot. 
2. Plug card in to riser lead.
3. ?????
4. Profit?

Can you take pictures of the parts you try to put together so we can tell whats wrong?

you not after the extension cables your after whats called a pci-e x1 to pci-e x16 its a full x16slot connecting to a little x1 slot

1x cables are perfectly fine, you just have to cut off the plastic at the back end. A 16x > 1x cable is nothing else than 1x cable with a 16 connector rather than 1x one of the female side, no extra lanes or anything is actually connected. Like someone else said tho, you will probably need to short the detection pins as well.
