Title: Can we stop talking about the same shit?
Post by: HabBear on April 03, 2017, 01:39:11 AM
On the first page of this sub-forum there are ~33 threads, with a total number of posts to average 1,000 each.

What does this mean? It means we don't have anything to talk about. We're rehashing the same ideas over the same topics...either out of laziness or greed.

Let's stop bullshitting around with each other. Let's stop posting to these beaten-to-death threads. Let's start new conversations or stop trying all together.

Hear hear.  But what do you expect on a forum where most people are paid to post?  And where you have people of all different countries with all different levels of writing proficiency?  You're going to get heaps of slop splattered in all different directions.  And yes, that includes topics that shouldn't exist and many, many posts that shouldn't exist.

This forum is frigging unlike any other I've ever been a member of.

Edit:  This is probably in the wrong section, though I think it's a very valid topic.  Should be in meta, no?

Very valid points, all of them.

Honestly I'm expecting the intersection of pay-for-post activity and the policing of signature spam posters by Campaign owners, the Community, and Mods to result in better variety of conversation.

Not all signature campaigners are spam posters. Not all post with poor quality or unoriginal content. I'm one of them, I believe I set a better example.

Maybe we need to do a better job policing the regurgitated posts we see in this sub-forum every single day. What else can we do?

Let's stop bullshitting around with each other. Let's stop posting to these beaten-to-death threads. Let's start new conversations or stop trying all together.

Let me summarize and rephrase the point of you making this thread. Shall we?

On the first page of this sub-forum there are so few threads but all the threads got so many individual spam posts, I should start yet another main thread to incentivize this huge signature opportunity.

Let's stop bullshitting the fact that I am posting something off-topic inside the economic forum. Heck , if I am using bashing others as the pretext of signature spamming signature campaign masters can't remove me from their campaigns right?

Very valid points, all of them.

Thanks for replying so that I can reply to get an easy +1 to my paid posts count.

Honestly I'm expecting the intersection of pay-for-post activity and the policing of signature spam posters by Campaign owners, the Community, and Mods to result in better variety of conversation.

Honestly I'm expecting to get paid more by debating about sig spam by using sig spam on irrelevant boards.

Not all signature campaigners are spam posters. Not all post with poor quality or unoriginal content. I'm one of them, I believe I set a better example.

I believe it is a first that anyone thought of using "encouraging creativity" as a front for me to sig spam. Typing a bunch of perfectly readable sentences using good English means that my posts are not of poor quality nor are they unoriginal. I believe I set the best example of subtle signature spam.

Maybe we need to do a better job policing the regurgitated posts we see in this sub-forum every single day. What else can we do?

I need someone else to reply , preferably someone to talk more about what else can we do, so I can sig spam more.

Seriously HabBear? You need to resort to this? I have reported this post to the mods to either move to the off-topic or trash section. For all its worth, if somehow the system pays me for this particular post, I will refund double to Lauda.

The next time you want to act a saint, do so somewhere where there are no conflict of interests in what you say.

Some are either just doing it for posts and others for discussion. If you think about it, it's hard to see what's the updated topics or just the necroposting posters just spamming all the way. It's just that we can't control the people who are posting and it's better just to block some of them, especially if they are just posting nonsense posts.

Ha, thanks for your uber hypocritical reply. All criticism is good. Reporting me? You're part of the problem. You should report people that aren't adding original thought to this Forum. I stand by this thread and my post history.

The reason this is relevant to the Economics sub-forum is because the Economics sub-forum has some of the highest average replies per threads on the first page than any other major sub-forum, i.e., to summarize for Quartx, the problem is worse here.

I'd be fine with this thread being deleted as long as there's a day for people to see it and read it. If it's deleted before 0:00GMT Wednesday I won't get paid for any of them (and I'd welcome a decision from Lauda to not pay me for these.)

Hey, at least now we're talking about something constructive!

Anyone else have honest thoughts to share on this? Or, even better, some new Economics topics to talk about?

I try to bump intelligent threads with less than 50 responses, like this one.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1834310

And avoid topics with 50 pages, that have been bludgeoned to death like beating a dead horse x100.

Its normal for threads that are thought provoking to go ignored.

All forums do this, unfortunately.

no we can't stop because what do you expect on a forum where most people are paid to post?

Yes i wish. Because many of people who uses bitcoin are getting paid to post in bitcoin forum. but there are no new topics to post on that's why it's the same topics that you will see here in this forum.

Excuse me guys, what is signature spam, and why are people paid to post?

Most posts I see seem genuine, but maybe that's only a partial view.

It means that most sig spammers don't care about reading threads that are already existing just to get an increase on their post. One thing you can do to help remove multiple threads is to report it to be delete because a similar one is already existing.

I always make it a priority to talk in new threads before I go and bump old ones with the same mundane bullshit. I know exactly what you're talking about, and agree wholeheartedly.

There are a few that pop up here and there, but they spawn at a far slower rate than new topics in Bitcoin Discussion.

If there is anything interesting you want to talk about, let me know. I find economics, especially macroeconomics, very interesting and I specifically enjoy talking about international trade. I don't know how many other people enjoy talking about those things, but I would definitely be more interested in "Economics" as a whole if we started to talk more about different aspects of Bitcoin on global trade and economic power structures, even if it is entirely speculative.

I typically don't make threads because I don't want to look after them too much. Maybe I should.

Marketplace -> Services might answer some of your questions.

In my case, I think being paid to post provides incentive to write a little more in depth & post more often than I would if I wasn't being paid.

I try to contribute towards discussion on the forum being better. I wouldn't claim that I'm successful at this, but I am trying.

I don't know why people are paid to post here. This could be the best place to advertise crypto currency related services and products. That could be why.

Ok, I could agree with you, there are too many topics about the same issues, often without much quality and repeating the same conclusions. So you have suggested to start some new converstation but you haven't suggested any new topic. So, why is then your thread better than any other here?

I think it's because there are to few forums (categories) so people are limited to talk about bitcoins, economy, politics and government stuff and all other things are considered offtopic. I'm trying to find interesting topic to participate with my opinions but it's true that there is too many rehashing...

That is why I don't read this section much often, after a while I got bored. I read the same message on those thread with thousand of reply! Now I prefer to stay in touch with sites like Bitcoinnist and Bitcoin news.

Signature campaigns are a phenomenon specific to this forum which involves paying users per post with an advertisement for the group running the campaign in their signature (like mine, Bitmixer).  Signature spam is when people make posts just to get money from their signature campaign and basically shitpost for that.

There are groups like Signature Managers Against Spam (SMAS) which try to prevent this, but it is still a problem.  On some subforums a large amount of topics require no knowledge or intelligent discussion - imagine threads like "I give you 10 Bitcoin what you do?".  These threads basically just exist for hundreds of people to spam their signature and the threads often gather well over a thousand replies.

I do think that campaigns are getting better, and while the discussions are often on the same topics, it is sometimes people giving a new input.  The problem is that there are some campaigns (like YoBit, still), which are very bad at monitoring their users and this results in monumental amounts of spam (YoBit users can be paid for up to 20 posts per day).  SMAS needs to try to expand to more campaigns, as some are not under their (quite effective) radar.

This means do not talk about what was discussed yesterday or last because it was clear his discussion.

there's just nothing else to talk to unless they keep the old threads alive and get paid through the signature campaigns we joined.  why not start a topic yourselves that isn't yet being posted here. this topic isn't suppose to be here, is it?  this topic doesn't talk about economics  ;D

Yes,there is a huge shortage of new topics.Members should actively start new topics so that people can get vast knowledge about bitcoin.By creating new topics,we can atleast contribute a little for the progress of bitcoin community.

Sounds like a good idea. I think I will start making more new threads in this section. I have a lot of good links in my bookmarks I can post.

Most of the best articles I've come across were from previous years, when the media was less repressed and journalistic integrity was higher.

Don't now if that matters considering a lot of the topics on page 1 were made 5 years ago.
