I was wondering what everyone uses for connection? LAN or WIFI?

Which one is better?

Can WIFI hurt profitability?

Not really if you have a stable WIFI connection it wont hurt the profitability

Both can work but I prefer LAN. Cabling can be a pain in the ass but then I know for sure that connectivity is not an issue. I always run into weird issues with wifi, but YMMV.

wifi is okay if you have a wifi that does not drop out much.

i am near a usa navy-army-airforce super base.

when there are doing maneuvers my wifi drops a lot.

so i don't use wifi.

High ping can get you stale shares.
If you are using WIFI make sure that you have very low ping

Only problem with wifi is weak connection, dropouts etc.

If you can run a cable then do it.

I was running wifi repeater in the shop for a long time and it was fine but finally was able to bury a cable.  When I was on the repeater put a amplifier on the in-house router and that helped a lot with signal drop outs, but when the weather got icy out here I had some drops outs for a few hours each morning for about 2 weeks in winter.

If you don't live in an apartment building, condo or anywhere else with lots of other wifi networks/interference wifi should be fine. If you do live somewhere with a lot of interference, I would run some lan cables, or use some of those ethernet over powerline adapters.

I personally live in a condo and I've found wifi to be a nightmare. Even though my adapters show my wifi network with full bars, every couple of days one of my rigs will disconnect due to interference, sometimes it wont reconnect until I physically remove and reinsert the wifi adapter or reboot the computer. I've lost days of mining time, not very fun.

Hardwired LAN is always the best since it is running on fairly short lengths of wire designed to minimize interference and cross-talk and you will enjoy sub 1 ms pings (latency) inside of your network. This helps keep additional contributions to latency negligible when you communicate with a remote server. Hardwired is also the most reliable as network drops are going to be either the router, your rig, or ISP causing issues (rarer), not just random wifi drops (more common).

With that said, Wireless LAN can be useful in limited situations. If you want to spread a few rigs around the house to minimize heating one area too much, or for noise, wireless allows you to do this easier without having to run wires all over. However, there will be a slightly higher latency penalty, which depending on your setup and how much interference your wifi is encountering, could add from 5 to 20 ms on top of your normal router to server latency. As others have correctly pointed out, this can sometimes cause an slight increase in stales at the pool.

The big problem is when you start to increase your rig count. Each rig will increase the wireless or RF "noise floor" in your house and depending on a multitude of other factors, can quickly get to the point where wireless become unusable. You will also notice this with other wireless technologies such as remote controls for garage door openers no longer working properly. This combined with the open air nature of most dedicated mining rigs and lack of proper grounding/shielding to dissipate the RF being generated, will quickly saturate your house with RF noise.

There is no hard and fast rule for this, as it will depend on your current noise floor, how many other wireless devices you have in your home (not just wifi), proximity to neighbors with wifi and wireless devices, power lines, etc., but once you hit anywhere from 5-10 rigs on wireless, you will probably start to notice the effects.

TLDR: Use hardwired LAN if you can, but for a small number of rigs on wifi the small hit on profits probably won't be noticeable.

LAN is always better, less interference and faster speed than WiFi in most cases.

Maybe lan is better but my operator sometimes shut down connection.

I have tried to run integrated wifi with 7 gpus but my mobo failed to do so. So I had to disable wifi and use lan instead. So if you have multiple gpus and want to use onboard wifi, better get a wi-fi device or use lan. As other stated lan works best but sometimes, it may not be the option if you have environment space issues.

Now im using lan for 2 rigs but room looks very ugly with those cables around.

 I thought ping to the pool is super important, and wifi reduces ping, right?
