Title: Lightning Network Used to Sell Beer at Room77
Post by: mynhpark on April 04, 2017, 12:18:44 PM
Located in Germany’s ‘Bitcoin city’ of Kreuzberg, Room77 is the first bar/restaurant in Berlin to accept bitcoin for payments.
The popular hangout for Bitcoiners has been taking the digital currency directly, with zero confirmations, for several years.

On Saturday 1st of April, Room77’s owner Joerg Platzer announced on Reddit: Today we have deployed a testnet Lightning node and accept
testnet coins via the Lightning Network (LN) from a few customers to get a glimpse into the future. And that future looks shining bright!

With Lightning, he explained that transactions arrive in milliseconds instead of the usual seconds.

Do you think every merchant will want to use LN?

I thought that testnet coins have no real value (or at least nothing compared to the main network), how come do they accept them as a payment method? LN is still in Alpha at the moment so I doubt people will start using it, until everything is stable and running smoothly.

There are even people giving away loads of free testnet coins for use on them, so they basically are worthless.  I don't think they would be making any profit from accepting LN coins so I guess that's a dumb/honourable decision of theirs.

I'm guessing they also expected the customers to hand over either some cash or actual BTC as well as taking the testnet coins for a spin.

Also, there's already a thread about this here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1851626.0) by the proprietor/manager themselves.

Definitely they will love to accept payments with 0 confirmation in LN but segwit is yet to get activated and i think LN will come only after segwit.
