Title: Where to store altcoins for long time?
Post by: newtoaltcoin on April 06, 2017, 10:03:15 AM
I'm new to these altcoins but I have collected around 1 million Dogecoin. But don't know where to store it. As of now, I kept all these coins in gambling site.

Is there any trusted online wallet to keep doge and dash coins?

Thanks

It's better to use offline wallet if you want to keep them very secure but if you want them online, than keep that coins where you have, if that websitr is trusted, if not that try poloniex but I donmt know if they have dogecoin wallet, they are exchangers. Don't use yobit for that because I have heard from many people that they have problem of quick withdrawals.

you can always store them in exchanges and enable 2FA with a very strong password. although trusting a third party means you are always at risk of them running away and that has already happened a couple of times with exchanges.

there is another option and using the official wallets of these coins. for most altcoins that means downloading their whole blockchain which is not an easy thing to do. also many altcoins may have malware in their wallets stealing your bitcoin and all secret information.

for big coins such as Litecoin and Doge you can always find SPV wallets (light and no need to download whole blockchain). for litecoin there is Electrum-ltc and for Doge there is MultiDoge.
I know that Electrum-ltc is an active project and they are developing and updating it.
i don't know how up to date MultiDoge is though.

don't keep there in a gamble site, it's a bad idea, they can be hacked, same for a webwallet, you can trust those, better to download the dogecoin wallet and store them on your computer

At least for Dogecoin I know for sure that it has Paper Wallet.
If you plan to just store your coins for long time, I think that this is the best choice.
I also have some Doge on paper wallets, but it looks that I should have better sold them, ohwell, maybe the bright days will come back eventually.... (I'm not too optimistic about that)

Just please make sure you've read about how to safely generate paper wallet. Please do that offline.
The paper wallet is actually a pair of private key + address.

When your paper wallet is correctly done and printed, you can just send the money to that address.
You will see the actual amount on a block explorer like https://chain.so/DOGE
And the paper wallet can be redeemed or imported into your wallet when you'll want to spend.

Keep that paper safe.

Online services can get hacked, can go bankrupt and so on. If you use an online service you'll have a "promise" that you'll get your money back. They are not for storage.

I think it is best to keep them in a desktop wallet rather than online wallet like the gambling site or exchanger site. But if you want to keep them for years like long term then you should find a way to keep them in a paper wallet because that's what is the best for me because it is offline and you will not worry for hackers to hack and steal your coins.

Online wallet is a good decision for you. Try to use search engine and you will be find your answer. or you can use paper wallet for dash.

You can use https://my.dogechain.info it's pretty good site for storing DOGE.
If you want to raise security you should install Dogecoin-qt to your pc. https://github.com/dogecoin/dogecoin

This is the best suggestion and thanks for giving the link because ive got some new ideas and same with OP too. I was amazed on 1M dogecoins for OP and i can say its really worth to keep it for long term even most people say that DOGE is dead already.
Just been mentioned above never ever try to use Yobit they really suck and would definitely waste up your coins for sure.

No problem, cheers!
Once upon a time I had ~12 million DOGE's but I sold them a long time ago. Good times indeed.

i never save my altcoins for long term and usually i would trade it if i have target sell but i think if you have huge amount of altcoins then desktop wallet is the best options because you have fully access into that wallet so it is pretty secure but if only have small amount i think save into exchanges would be fine but just in case that pick trustworthy exchange only

I split my altcoins in some exchanges and online wallets. If one of the exchanges scam or any of the wallets scam me, I won't lose all my coins. It never happened and there is a small probability to happen, it's safe.
I do this because I don't like to download desktop wallets, especially altcoins wallets, it's a bit desnecessary as I can use the online services and as I'm exchanging them all the time.

If you storing your dogecoin/dash for a long period of time dont use online wallet just use a desktop wallet its more safer than online wallet.

The best way to store and secure them is through offline wallet because if you can provide secure code to your wallet so that nobody will hack your wallet and more over you can save your coin in the offline wallet when compared to the online wallet.

Why not use  https://my.dogechain.info, I've been using this wallet for storing my doges and I don't get any problems for months. Regarding on DASH wallet you can check this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.0, where you can download it.

I always keep my Dogecoins on Dogechain.info. It's a safe place to keep Dogecoins and I never had issues on that site. If you prefer desktop wallets, you can use MultiDoge wallet.
For DASH you can use Dash Core desktop wallet or Jaxx.io mobile wallet.
Also, you can use Coinomi mobile wallet for most popular altcoins. They also planning to release their desktop wallet.

The most secure place is offline wallet if you are looking to store them for longer period of time because hacking is not possible offline . Online wallets are not a good option to store altcoins for longer period of time.

You could store them in an exchange such as Poloniex or Bittrex and that way if you want to trade them it will be easier.

Storing them long term you can and would be best advised to use a local desktop wallet and make sure you copy the wallet.dat file and store it safely.
