Title: Beta.bitcointalk.org is back to work
Post by: OmegaStarScream on April 06, 2017, 05:15:05 PM
I have noticed that the beta epochtalk software is back to work: https://beta.bitcointalk.org/ I see no modifications of the bugs that has been reported already so I suppose this was nothing but correcting the bug that took the software down last time. I thought I should let you guys know since I didn't see any announcements.

It's far from being finished but yes I do agree that It's not impressive at all If we take in consideration the amount of time and money that was used for this project.

If they built it correctly, third party skins will pop up to change the look.

Looks good and promising. Can't wait for the launch. Right now it's very difficult to read (not to mention posting) when you are on smartphone or small screen tablets. Looks like we are getting there anytime soon?

Anytime soon? I doubt it. We are waiting since long time, theymos added a message to the news a few weeks ago about changing our passwords and controlling our accounts in order to use the new forum software but It got removed, so I guess they are facing other issues.

If we speak about the design, then I believe It's far from being finished. I personally lost hope and I'm no longer waiting the new software, the development is simply not active enough. I reported a few simple bugs long time ago and until now, they are not fixed.

The development is active. The design isn't a top priority right now. Wangbus provided an update here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=623751.msg18932126#msg18932126

I am quite comfortable reading and posting using a 4.7 inch iPhone. Because the interace of the site itself is not too bad. Just wonder why the beta site is not displaying some newer thread.

While the frontend design is not yet complete, Epochtalk was made to be responsive and mobile friendly (unlike SMF 1.x). You can expect further improvements in the UX down the road once it gets a higher priority.

New threads don't appear as the current data on the Beta is from October 2016. New data has to be migrated from Bitcointalk for new threads to 'appear' on the Beta.

Wow. The site looks pretty good. I wonder how it will look when it is complete. Already looks better than the current Bitcointalk, in my opinion.

What use could it have beside having access to the forums with new features, new design, security etc..? The beta is meant for those who want to help in the development and report bugs. If you don't want to use it, you can still wait for the final release.

I really like the dark theme of the beta site and the snappiness. It makes it comfortable for me to use the site for long periods at night. Anyways I wont be using it for now because of any unknown security issues.

Everyone is able to access the beta including newbies yes, to report bugs post them to GitHub repository. We have no news about the final release date though, It could take sometime.

The last time I checked, It was something like this:

https://epochtalk.com/assets/screenshot-main-52f3665acf193292a903637b290f34c7f44a922792b29bb01a44a66259f97f94.png

It's now showing the following message:
Code:
version update and data migration in progress

I believe they are applying it on the current forum software we are using and beta finished or they are updating the beta, the message is not clear enough.

Seems like work is ongoing, been waiting for a long while and looking forward to see the new Bitcointalk finally replace the old one.

However I am very used to the current software and I'm sure many others are too... Wonder how users will react when things look different.

Wow Sound Good . and looks like Good.

It has a nice view. It's easier to read. But it was not possible to test its functions. I hope it will be possible to use it with a white background.

I believe back in 2014/2015 i read that at least  $1,000,000 worth of bitcoins were donated by the community for the development of a new version of Bitcointalk ( can't remember the name of the thread )  and this is the result after all those years and money "invested"  ?

I won't even say anything.

Yes, I would have to say too that a white background would be very nice. I think the dark grey on black is just extremely hard to see as well as use to navigate around. I am really hoping for the forum will be released soon and will be much faster, needless to say stop crashing on us all the time. However theymos' new update has fixed a lot of issues.

I have no idea why we need a new forum site, could we login using the same pass and username? though it is still not implemented to worry about. I think the problem is simple the site is full. Am I right?

The database will remain the same basically and everything you have including your ranks, PMs, posts etc. will stay. The only thing that will change will be the interface and some new features will come (2FA as an example).

Having a 2FA feature would be good especially because there are many cases of accounts being hacked in the forum. Anyway, it's been a while now since you posted this thread, any news about this development?

That's a big amount of money in my country you can
buy a house & lot in just a month, that's why I want to be a programmer it is not late though.

Ah so the human verification is one of them, I remember clearly that long time ago the login authentication don't have that security.

You are asking for an ETA on the ETA?  You'll have to ask Theymos.  :)

Hi guys, maybe you can answer my question.
In the beta version of the forum fit old accounts from here?

From what I read it should allow you to use an existing account. So yes to your question.

Black screen in mobile phone.

I can access it just fine through Chrome using Android. Report the issue (with enough details) to their GitHub If this persists.
