Title: First Ethereum mining rig and my take on the Rosewill build
Post by: coinbeast on April 07, 2017, 01:03:38 PM
I have finally dived into Ethereum mining and was really inspired by the Rosewill server rack builds I see here.
I built 3 rigs,

FrankenRig1

Biostar TB85
EVGA 1200w
6x MSI RX 470 Armor OC

The best hashrate I have achieved without bios mod is 142mhs

FrankenRig 2

Asrock Z97 Extreme4
EVGA 1300w
6x Sapphire RX 480

The best hashrate I have achieved without bios mod is 135mhs

FrankenRigPrime

Asrock Z97 Extreme4
EVGA 1300w
6x Sapphire RX 480

The best hashrate I have achieved without bios mod is 155mhs

What I can't understand is how FrankenRig2 is the exact same build as FrankenRigPrime, everything is exactly the same from the memory, cpu, hdd's etc but I can't get a decent hashrate out of it at all and then FrankenRigPrime is built and the first overclock I put into it (999 core, 2200 memory) and it loves it.

For those who are wondering, yes that is a hacksaw blade.

hack saw blade = MacGyver  at its best

your clocks are fucked up on smos

go to over clock

do:

 1050,1050,1050,1050,1050,1050
 2200,2200,2200,2200,2200,2200

power of 1 not 5

do 65% for fans

do it for rig2 and rig prime  as they are the same 12 cards.
here are 3 msi rx 480 8gb stock bios all have hynix ram

What model Rosewill chassis is that?

It's the RSV-L4500. I am really happy with it. I have not had any problems using it for my rigs.

Noob question: Can you swap the middle fans to the front of the case? If so how do you monitor the rig? Is there room for a cable from one of the cards to a monitor?

How do you fix the cards?
How do they stay in place? Im planning to buy a case like this but I have no idea how will the cards stay in there. ;)
