Finally, the Japanese government accepted bitcoin as a legal payment!BTC

Want some insights or a quick guide into how bitcoin works as a currency in Tokyo?

What kind of products and services we can buy using bitcoinsBTC?

What app should we choose to trade bitcoins?

Or even how’s the Sakura going on under the landmark Tokyo Tower?

Yes, way too many questions!

Therefore, we invite Ruby as our Tokyo bitcoin guide to help you discover more about Bitcoin & the City.

Just by watching the video below!

In case you don’t have Wi-Fi now and neither do you have an unlimited data plan, we have prepared a quick preview for you:

Ruby from BitKan which is a very aggressive and professional Bitcoin agency,

in a city full of innovation and wonders, discovering every single possibility of our beloved Bitcoin,

this whole thing could totally appeal to you.

And to add spice to this documentary,

she accepted our challenge of living in Tokyo only by bitcoins for 72 hours!

As soon as it began, she rushed to her favorite place in town, which of course is the National Museum...

no way, just kidding! It’s a bar. Ruby rushed to a bar in broad daylight!

But, drinking is just like marriage, you need to choose the right timing!

5 o’clock in the afternoon is of course not a good time for getting drunk. Maybe that’s why this bar won’t open until 8 pm.

https://o8t0bd96n.qnssl.com/public/resources/pic/upload/2017/04/06/CMKg8aIH0K_%E5%B1%8F%E5%B9%95%E5%BF%AB%E7%85%A7_2017-04-06_%E4%B8%8B%E5%8D%884.24_.20_.png

Still, nothing could stop Ruby to get a taste of Tokyo nightlife. She made the second charge into that bar, and this time she succeeded.

https://o8t0bd96n.qnssl.com/public/resources/pic/upload/2017/04/06/gSQvzdRfiB_%E5%B1%8F%E5%B9%95%E5%BF%AB%E7%85%A7_2017-04-06_%E4%B8%8B%E5%8D%884.24_.59_.png

But how to pay in bitcoins after you get a little bit tipsy? There are two methods for you, so please stay sober and read on:

https://o8t0bd96n.qnssl.com/public/resources/pic/upload/2017/04/06/4Xm49O59a8_IMG_2938.GIF

1, By using a Third-party Bitcoin Payment app.

Some apps in Japan could ensure the instant transfer of currency by using third-party payment,

and the rate will be automatically calculated.

This actually is as quick and easy as WeChat Pay, only in bitcoins.

For instance, Ruby this time used CoinCheck to pay her bills. All she needed to do is scan the QR code and press “confirm”!

2, By discussing the rate with the merchant and transfer bitcoins with BitKan app.

This method is widely used among small merchants. For instance, when Ruby was renting a Kimono, the shop keeper decided his own rate.

https://o8t0bd96n.qnssl.com/public/resources/pic/upload/2017/04/06/Z7VHB7r9qv_IMG_2940.GIF
5000 Yen (around 50 USD)

=

0.5 BTC!!!!!!!!!

(You must be kidding me! I will give you 500 USD for 5 BTC please!)

OK, it turned out that the shopkeeper was not that good with numbers. And it should be 0.05 BTC.

Anyway, we should keep it in mind that the exchange rate might not be fair, and Visa or MasterCard is still a better choice.

https://o8t0bd96n.qnssl.com/public/resources/pic/upload/2017/04/06/hXJwKiiF3k_%E5%B1%8F%E5%B9%95%E5%BF%AB%E7%85%A7_2017-04-06_%E4%B8%8B%E5%8D%884.28_.43_.png

(obviously Ruby doesn’t care about the exchange rate at all! Stay happy, girl!)

Q: How many dollars did Ruby pay in Bitcoin to rent the Kimono?

LEAVE YOUR ANSWER and YOUR IMPRESSION OF VIEW on the comment, leave your BitKan ID number, you will get a surprise!

Yea, we also had a guy who paid $150 for a beer at a local pub when he got a bit tipsy and there will be people who would exploit this. This is no

different for any other currency, because you can do the same with cash or credit cards. What you can do, is to use a separate wallet for "social"

nights.... Just transfer enough for the night before you go out. This will prevent scrupulous bar men to clear your Bitcoin balance.  ::)

this is incredibly easy in japan... more than 260,000 stores in japan will accept bitcoin by this summer.

It's a bit unfortunate that price might be manipulated because of fast changing exchange rate.
What would be a fair exchange rate for Bitcoin anyway, is there even something like fair price?

.....a lot done more to do !!

This is brilliant though and shows that Tokyo anyway is closer to real every day
buying and selling in BTC eventhough its still a bit like a mystery tour and
a lot of googling and of course getting the all important decimal point in the
right place!!

very interesting, thanks for posting.

Its awesome to have a counterpoint to china's crypto involvement(even if its been there for a long time and normie btc users like myself never noticed).

Wonder if japan with its microchip savvy might enter ASIC design & production at some point in time.

AFAIK japan's electronics design and chip lithography are very good. They could have the capacity to produce next generation ASIC chips if they decided to pursue that goal.

BitKan App could contain some reference pricings in a database and popup an alert if figures don't fit. That would be the modern way to do. Easy on beer.
But..
I would not tell any App anything about what I am trying to buy or rent (Kimonos are out of question here) and many users might feel similar concerns regarding their privacy.

A really excellent video how someone can spend his bitcoins in everyday needs. It's good not only for bitcoin but for cryptos in general if so many stores will accept bitcoin as medium of payment next summer as post someone above me. Japan is a technologically developed country so their citizens soon get used paying with bitcoin.

I'm glad they finally at it,Japan is a technology giant with their full acceptance of Bitcoin I'm sure they will innovate and invite usage of Bitcoin,I think a lot of great things will come out in Japan in terms of bitcoin usage I doubt if they will set up a mining company they would set up applications and products that they are going to sell to bitcoin users.

So you can store your entire bitcoin in an app.
Yup it is indeed a fast way to pay the bills but it may also an disadvantage
What if you got drunk then people may take your phone or money.
So better transfer money that you'll only be needing.

Japanese girls have some of the fairest skin in the world, even Caucasian girls can't beat.

I wonder what are they applying to their skin, or the diet they eat.
Their skin is so fair as if the sun never shine on them.

I only wish that this is possible in other parts of the world.

In my country, China, this isn't possible at all. The money transmitting sector is dominated by big payment processors like Wechat pay and Alipay, and nobody is giving any thought to bitcoin at all.

This is a great decision by the Japanese government.

But at the same time, other countries are moving further and further away from bitcoin. Just look at how the central bank of China put all these regulations around the withdrawal of coins from exchanges etc.

Mining in its present form is dead already

I mean with all that expensive mining hardware. In fact, it is dead even twice. As I would say, it is dead conceptually, and if something doesn't get changed on its own (in a evolutionary way), it will be changed forcefully (in a revolutionary way). But it is already dead on purely technical grounds as well, there is no more room left to increase hash rates due to technological limits. You can't indefinitely raise CPU frequencies (in a meaningful way), it is basically the same with asics. Further increasing their capacity would require enormous capital but that simply doesn't make sense. In short, asics mining is at a dead end from both sides of the stick

This is incredibly awesome!!!

Can't stress enough that bitcoin is supposed to be used in day to day life.

Many people are using bitcoin as a speculative tool, like penny stocks. But that shouldn't be the case. You should be able to send payments in less than 5 seconds to another person, whether you know them or not, and whether that person is overseas or right in front of your face.

As we can see though there is still a lot to be done before we can safely say that living off bitcoin is easy.

You have to travel long distances if you don't live close to the city centre just to buy something with bitcoin.

Hopefully, more merchants will start accepting bitcoin soon.

My bank called me other day and was like "yo dude its me from da bank" im like "yo man" and he was tellin me that bank needed 2 know why i had to transfer money I N T E R N A T I O N A L and i was like "dude, im big in the states" but NO i told him arguments why Bitstamp needed some of money and that is because of the potential about cryptocurrencys.

I always argue from an intellectual point of way of the Design of a currency with blockchain. I told him straight up I buy this because this has great potential and by that i mean other crypto beside from BTC too

this bankman felt a little bit suprised by my rant but I'm not saying local(private/goverment banks) currencys will disappear, its just that blockchain and crypto is by design a Internet Currency and States(socialist states?) such as China and Sweden need to figure out the overall positive effects this will have.

I DESIRE a BIG BANK of Manga & Anime with micro bitcoin payments and i really hope Japan come together as a culture unity and make this happen globaly because it such a great piece of work there..

And I bet China EASY would win with a Cryptocurrency - *legalthinkingspectre* because I would DEF buy electronics in some particular areas, from China, and other stuff 2 ofc... with an easy way of buying them. I hope China and Sweden and other countries fallow as Japan seem to be doin, going to be a better and more interesting way of an economy on this planet for once 4 sure if big players embrace it.

ARIGATO JAPANO!!!!!for going a steady way to a new time of economic thinking

Wow, this is just amazing. I know that Japan already accepted BTC in their financial system but I didn't know the scale of it until I saw your post and that video. It appears that they are really serious in using BTC there. Exchange rate will always be a pain the butt when paying for something with BTC but we just have to deal with it. I'm hoping that my country will take this as an example and copy it in our system. This is one of the reasons why Japan's economy is growing fast through the years.

I'm glad this experience wasn't one of those "no, I must only spend directly from Bitcoin to Bitcoin" types of deals that others have done only to conclude that Bitcoin is difficult to spend.

Living on Bitcoin means having bitcoins and spending them. Even if you need to go through third party services.

I imagine if someone were to do an experiment of "I'm only going to spend dollars" and use actual cash they would experience more limited options. Some places in the US do not accept cash anymore.

Many people have been living off Bitcoin for years by now, but they don't post twits and posts telling the public how they converted a few satoshi in the morning and spent the proceeds in the bar at night (where "good morning means goodbye"). Apart from some Tokyo Girl ("you've got the moves to rule the world") aiming at publicity stunt and looking for cheap popularity, I don't see any particular purpose in this "Bitcoin Survival Challenge". You can just order a Bitcoin payment card and get done with that. As simple as it gets, but maybe, it is just me, after all

Ok no offence but that video sucked. Maybe it was lost in translation but that chick should have been speaking her mother tongue because in English it sucked. The filming sucked too. There was 2 good parts,, the first when they showed the news coverage of Mark's arrest and when the guy in the dress shop tried to hustle the chick for half a bitcoin for a dress rental. LOL.

Japanese girls have some of the fairest skin in the world, even Caucasian girls can't beat.

I wonder what are they applying to their skin, or the diet they eat.
Their skin is so fair as if the sun never shine on them.
Man this reply of yours isnt to relevant on this topic since you are just describing the japanese girl. Haha.
Back to topic its really nice for a country does accept bitcoin now and im wondering what would be the exchange rate on that place since it already become a part of mainstream of japan.Expected prices would be affected on this adoption.

The point is to demonstrate that someone can live on bitcoins. They can hold 100% bitcoins instead of other currencies and do just fine. I have done this so I know it can be done.

There are many services that are helpful such as gift cards or a third party like purse.io, even BitPay is not direct bitcoin to the merchant. Trying to be all 100% and "pure" is just silly at this stage of Bitcoin. I gladly pay for my web hosting service even if they accept BitPay instead of me directly sending my bitcoin to the merchant's wallet.

This is new to Japan so them getting the word out with stunts like this is just fine.

It's better than the journalist in the US who tried it in the early days and when trying to get a subway ticket he stood outside of the station with a sign that said "will pay bitcoin for a ticket", when he could have gone online, used bitspend (at the time) to buy a subway ticket online. His conclusion: other than one or 2 niche stores, you can't use your bitcoins.

They could have the capacity to produce next generation ASIC chips if they decided to pursue that goal

I have long been wondering if/when some of the big chip makers (Samsung Electronics, Toshiba, etc.) have not gotten in to making ASIC chips for Bitcoin.

It would seem to me that Samsung or Toshiba would be in a position to make MILLIONS of these chips a dominate the space.

Maybe the economics don't justify it yet (BTC market too small?).

This is a good news since bitcoin was already accepted in Japan as a form of payment in exchange for goods and services many merchants are now popping out and posted outside their shops the words "bitcoin is accepted here". If you have bitcoins then it is also good to accept such challenge since that would be fun. Bitcoin will become a good commodity that can function as a currency and Japan had made it possible.

in fact you see by the time the japan government accepted it the masses which is what matter, started to use it more

This is the most controversial part

Why would they want to use Bitcoin apart from going after some girl, really? Men do a lot of stupidest things in this regard, for example, rob banks (or just buy jewelries when they don't need to rob banks), but will it have any lasting effect? What about female businessmen (businesswomen) then? Should we equip some macho with a bunch of bitcoins and send him to a male strip club to advertise for Bitcoin?

Yep, through 3rd party to make BTC much more easier to use is the best way to let people use BTC.
We don't need everyone understand it then trust it then use it, it's difficult.
But we could let people in the world to find a better way to pay and exchange, and finally they realized that that's BTC

It's a bit unfortunate that price might be manipulated because of fast changing exchange rate.
What would be a fair exchange rate for Bitcoin anyway, is there even something like fair price?

Maybe the price based on our trust. :P

Yea, we also had a guy who paid $150 for a beer at a local pub when he got a bit tipsy and there will be people who would exploit this. This is no different for any other currency, because you can do the same with cash or credit cards. What you can do, is to use a separate wallet for "social" nights.... Just transfer enough for the night before you go out.
This will prevent scrupulous bar men to clear your Bitcoin balance.  ::)

Great suggestion!
I'm also think about the privacy problems, only in the world that we don't use 3rd part and only pay each other with our address QR code, then no one will get my information in anyway.
Your bank is stealing your information somehow. who knows.

Since Japan is just recently recognized BTC as currency this in the video is just the beginning and as we can see it was not easy to find places where you can pay with BTC.Japan is a highly technologically developed country and I think that BTC has a bright future in the land of the rising sun.

It would be interesting to conduct this kind of research for some six months and then after one year so that we can see how will BTC actually have an impact in everyday life.

That is the beautiful thing about Bitcoin. If your government wants to be spiteful and ban Bitcoin locally, you can still hoard it and spend it in

another country where it is accepted. { You can have a huge holiday and buy loads of stuff while you there } If these countries think, they

going to stop Bitcoin, they have another thing coming. They are just going to lose a bunch of tax income and tourism income if they ban it.  ;D
