Post by: shiva.India on April 10, 2017, 12:56:43 PM
Hello Guys,
I am new to crypto world, I am keeping all coins in exchanges. Unfortunately if exchange gets hacked is there any way to get it back my coins with physical address of the coins ?.

If an exchange gets hacked and left witout coins you won't be able to recover them. At best you can try to sue the exchange and see if is there a way to recover your money from exchange's owner.

Probably best not to start a thread called Exchange Hacked. Maybe call it 'What happens if an exchange is hacked'

I mean you caught me, but it seems unneccessary.  It is real money we are talking about, and exchanges do get hacked.

Keep very limited number of coins on exchanges, only to make necessary trades. If you're planning to keep any coins long-term, it is best to keep them on your offline wallet.

P.S.: And yes, please revise the topic title. No exchange got hacked today.

In the first place this is not a good way to store your coins and experts are not recommending to keep your coins in exchanges, you need a desktop wallet to store your coins so you have fulll control of your private keys and wallet.dat even an online wallet is not to be truusted with all your coins.

Normally you don't. Crypto world is not regulated and the exchanges are not insured against theft.
However, there were (very) few cases during history people got reimbursed by the exchanges, the last one I've read about was Bitfinex (although I didn't follow the whole story).

As the others said: online businesses are not good for holding your belongings.

Pretty much what everyone said.
There's an exception though. When Bitfinex was hacked they credited tokens to everyone to be redeemed as Bitcoin at a later stage.
Everyone whose coins were stolen in that exchange got them all back recently.

you can see accident in bitfinex, all balance client is not gone
bitfinex policy, replace bitcoin client use bitfinex token, until now recovery is success, and volume transaction in bitfinex high again

Its a bad idea to keep all your coins at an exchange.
And you better read out exchange policy or terms of use etc. Maybe they have mentioned that they will return your funds if something like this happened(mostly it won't be there, but you can still check)
And no, you won't be able to get them back if they are gone from there.

Of course no, there are not way to get the coins has been hacked on exchangers because you don't have the private key of wallet in exchangers, the coins on exchangers are not your and you don't have control if getting hacked so if you don't trade never put the coins on exchangers because it is dangerous for losing, more safe do withdrawal on your cold wallet.

No. How you could recover your wallet balance if you do not have private keys. Exchanges is a multi wallet and do not give private keys. I do not know if you can request for it, I never tried. If this happens, the best way is to ask the exchange owner for a refund but its a long process and might involved legal process. Cryptsy ?

no there is not , and it's better if you don't keep all your coins, there but keep only the one you need for trading, to ensure that at least the majority are safe, and exchange do not give away their private address, physical address can't do anything to prevent your coins from being stolen i'm sorry, one thing you might do is putting 2fa and strong password, if they hack the database they still need to hack the password i think, and this should put a second layer of protection at least

Not all exchange will do that, mostly just gone or just give half of your funds, remember mintpal? Cryptsy?. My coins gone in mintpal case, not even half coins are returned.

Better to use exchange as exchange, not for storing fund.

Same here,i thought the same thing which a new exchange been hacked but when i read its just a query related to exchange hack and topic title should really be changed.
On topic, if an exchange is being hacked then say goodbye to your coins because you wont really able to get them back.
