Title: Have you been scammed BTC? What will you do if your bitcoin get scammed?
Post by: kvlolo on April 10, 2017, 07:00:52 PM
Have you ever been scammed? And what will you do if your bitcoin get scammed?

Few years ago, it seemed to be the beginning of 2013, I did not remember clearly, I've ever been scammed for nearly 20 BTC, I funded a gambling site, my account got frozen without any reason few hours after I funded.

I could do nothing except crying.

Since the bitcoin transactions are irreversible, unless you got the identity of the person who scammed you, nothing much you can do. Even if you have his/her identity, you should be able to prove that you are scammed by that person. Yes, it usually ends up bad.

Try to explain your situation to the police they'll look at you as they see an alien.   ;D

Uhm no. Actually, I've been scammed once for $50 BTC, but I doxed the guy, found out he was on a forum (I was member of that forum as well), exposed him as a scammer and destroyed his reputation, then he decided to pay me back. The guy was literally desperate.

Yeah, I got scammed last year by some asshole who thought he needed the money more than I did.  Not much I could do about it, and I ought to have known better than to give a no-collateral loan to someone on this forum.  Ooops.

I learned my lesson and haven't lent anyone money since.  'Twas an expensive lesson, but it could have been much worse.

Yes I had been scammed, by cloud mining, by ponzi and by people, that is why I never trust cloud mining, ponzi and be really careful to do transaction with stranger, there is not much you can do, just learn from mistake and accept that my bitcoin is gone forever since bitcoin is not legal and it is hard to tracked the scammer identity

I've never been scammed, just because I'm very wary with all transactions (although I appreciate that that isn't always enough).

It sounds weird, but while you're more likely to get scammed with Bitcoin, you're so much better off if you are that it doesn't matter.  With fiat, if you get scammed the chances are the scammer has your personal information, possibly even your credit card details, and who knows what they're going to do with that.  With Bitcoin, if you get scammed, it's just:  your money's gone.  That's a shame.  Time to make some more.

I have been cheated, everything happened just because of greediness to earn more. Later on realized the drawback of being greedy. I lost more than a single bitcoin investing into worthless schemes believing that it gives good return. Even if the profiting is low it's good to find the legitimate investment site and then invest.

The same thing everyone on this forum does when they get scammed.

Piss and moan like an impotent jerk all over the forum while simultaneously calling every government agency I can think of to ask for help getting back my anti-government unregulated money.

I think majority of the users here got scammed bitcoin before. When I was starting bitcoin, i got scammed a few times. What did I do? Move on! I learned from my mistakes. Before I enter into a new investments, I conduct a thorough research to avoid being scam. I also ask some members of the investment sites about their first hand experience on it.

If you have been scammed, just grit your teeth and move on.
In the Bitcoin world, the wisest thing to do is avoid risky investments. Recovery will almost always be next to nothing.

I'm happy to say that I was never scammed since I joined the Bitcoin Community, because the friend who introduced me bitcoin told me to be very vigilant and not to believe when someone offer's something like making your money double in just a week. But if that will happen to me then I'll take it as a lesson to never trust your money to anyone.

Getting scammed in bitcoin happens a lot, i might as well say everybody who started to learn bitcoin got scammed as well at some point.
I got scammed several times as well in these sites that's so called cloud mining
They're nothing but ponzi schemes and with bitcoin anonymous feature there is nothing much i could do to take back my money.

I experience being scammed in some double your BTC site in 24-48 hours. I got influence by those people in facebook posting about being paid after 24 hours. Then I invested 0.02btc from all of my earnings. Then After i invested few hours, It becomes scam! the site just gone like a bubble. I regretted and I'm so frustrated because that was only earnings for almost 3 months that time, I only earned from faucet sites that day, ( I didn't know this forum yet) But that was a lesson for me now for easily trusting sites like that.

It looked like everyone got scammed when they were new to the new technology and like everyone even i was scammed believing a double site because whenever i sent them a small amount they used to return within the specified time and when it deposited 0.5 btc they never bothered to return back and these all happened in 2015 and that was a good lesson.

As of now I  didn't experienced to get scammed by other people or gambling sites. But what if I get scammed? Probably I'll get very mad and at the same time I get bored or I will feel I like to get all my capital because if you work hard to earn such amount of bitcoin and then in just one snap all of your earnings are gone because you've been scammed. I will report it to a authorize person and I will get help to those people who is responsible. Nothing will happen if you didn't act and just sit there crying and begging. You need to move and act so that your bitcoin will get back. :)

Yes I have been scammed cloud mining site the hashocean I deposited 0.065 btc I thought it would be last forever. I haven't received my profit yet on hashocean and also I lost my bitcoins in wallet when I clicked a phishing site at first I didn't knew it was a phishing site so I've entered my details on that site and hours later when I've checked the wallet it was all gone. :(

so, I've learned my lesson never trust everyone in facebook groups

Lucky for me that I have not been tempted into investing in these high yield investment programs because I have been doing a lot of reading about the complaints and regrets of those who have become victims of scams. I do not need to learn from my own experience as the experience of others is enough for me to shy away from these scams. I just try to patiently hold my bitcoins and accumulate as much as I can.

I have been scammed many times but I did not lost an amount which is as big as yours. I have been scammed three times first was by perfect hash then it was followed MCOUB and then the last time was hashocean a fake mining site. When I was scammed all I can do is to find other ways to earn bitcoin so at least I can get back what I lost. And so I succeeded and I won back through other means the amount of btc lost and with that effort I did not stop earning until now.

I got scammed by one guy which worth of 0.02 btc around in LBC trade. You could have checked in account and I have a sent a negative to his account. It happened more than a year before i guess. Please always aware of newbies while you involves in any trade.
Try to use escrow in all your trade and you would not get scammed.

the only time i can say i was "scammed" is when i invest in an altcoin and the manipulators dump it and i lose money. and that is only because no amount of research or analysis can predict their dumping.

other times i always do extensive research before doing anything and this is not just bitcoin related, so no i have no other cases fortunately.

i have also been scammed with HYIP, but very few amount of bitcoin, 0.2, 0.1, nothing too drastic, i was just trying and hope to use the profit from the website to keep my investment running

but they run away very fast these day, not like the old day where bitcoin was at 200 and they give you some time, when you invest big, before steal your money

now thye run away evne if you invest small amount, better to leave all the HYIP behind, mining is more profitable and legit

I think everyone who have invested in Hyips and those pyramid ponzi schemes have got scammed in the past and will get scammed in the future. I used to try and oversmart those sites by investing early and cashout before they go scam. But it was not succesfull all the time. Hyips are made to scam people.

I have been scammed by a jewellery site, where they claimed the ornament was made from 24 carat gold and then it turned out that the thing

was gold plated and not solid gold. I paid the guy and they stalled the delivery until they moved the bitcoin to another address through a mixer

services and then they closed the site. It was very expensive and I lost a bunch of money on that...  but I learned a valuable lesson from this. I

will not make a mistake like that again.  >:(

Not that much since even Im a newbie back then, I have mind stating that there's no easy money. The amount scammed from me is not a decent one to consider and just want to try some risk to see how the system "there" is going on since lots of positive review are being brought up.

In real world, I have also some scammed experienced although again not that much. I just want to test some company back and see how it will goes but in the end, their journey become a wrecked one.

I think it's hard to find people on this forum, who weren't been scammed at least once time.
I have been scammed several times, but my losses weren't big.
When I was unexperienced, I invested in some HYIP's even knowing about risk to be scammed. I lost some money, but my investments was small and my losses wasn't big.
Also, I joined some faucets which didn't paid after reaching paymen treshold. Yes, there was only few hundred thousand satoshi in total, but I more regret my time, wasted on these scam faucets.
I'm happy that I haven't been scammed for big amount of bitcoins and I hope to never experience it.

i don't think the number of people who have not been scammed ever in this world is that many unless they have never used exchanges in their life. all the exchanges that i have used and there are many, have scammed their users or at the very least have gotten hacked and i have lost bitcoin in some of them because no matter how careful you are and how short you keep your coins there, there will be a time when they catch you and scam you!

Wow...20 Bitcoin is now worth a lot of money. Had you just hold it without thinking about it then it would have been so good to harvest it now (that is if you had failed to sell it in 2017). The feeling of being victimized by a scam is something that is hard to explain...you can get angry with yourself for falling such a scheme and you can also feel pity that you lost something valuable in our quest to earn more money. I am sure that your Bitcoin is hard-earned so accepting the whole charade can be difficult but life has to move on. I was scammed too with revenue sharing programs before -- I think that was in 2017 when revshares were all so popular. I can only count a few of my friends who are not victims of scams...be it using the fiat money or cryptocurrency. Sadly, there is really nothing we can do about it except moving on and not stopping in looking for ways to increase our worth.

Stupid I'm, I did not check first on their loan history. because he owed me several times, after he gained trust, then he borrowed large funds, because he paid on time and smoothly, I lent him.

Apparently he had loan from many people with that one account. I tried to contact him on Facebook, but he argued that his account was hacked, there was nothing I could do after that

God!! 20 BTC is such a large amount... in fact it can be life changing. I have been a victim of scams a few times, but I never lost such big amounts. So it was easy for me to forget about everything and move on. But in your case, it would have been devastating. Moving on is one of the options, but if I were in your place, then I would definitely pursue the scammers.

Sounds like you did the right thing. I fell for a stupid bitcoin faucet scam a couple of years ago, but I only lost .00450000 BTC. I also lost some BTC due to not storing passphrases and gambling. We can only learn once we lose bitcoin due to stupidity or theft.

But back then 20 BTC was not worth what it is today. I suspect very small fractions of BTC will be worth very significant amounts in the future, so that people will wonder why we threw or gave away tens of thousands of satoshis as if they were nothing.

What do you mean by investment bots, till now i have not come across this one, are you talking about trading bots? .
No one could scam you if you are not falling for their fancy returns and if you very well understand that there is nothing you can get for free or without any effort and if you have a logical reasoning on things, no one could scam anyone, but that is not the world we are living in, majority or all of the scams take attracts their victim by promising high returns and if everyone thinks logically, they will move on to other things.

Bitcoin was probably pricing 22-266 dollars on that time op mentioned (beginning of 2013). So he might have lost between 440-5320 dollars. Well, that is not too much depending the person, but it's a decent amount anyway. In some countries it's possible to live for more than 1 year with such amount.

Back to the question, I think what I would do depends on the scam situation. If it were an exchange I would sue them with all other users who were scammed, at least on this point regulations are very helpful.
But if scammed by other kinds of sites I think it's harder to fill an action against them, especially the pyramid schemes, that is why it's better to just not invest.

Since the bitcoin transactions are irreversible, unless you got the identity of the person who scammed you, nothing much you can do. Even if you have his/her identity, you should be able to prove that you are scammed by that person. Yes, it usually ends up bad.

Try to explain your situation to the police they'll look at you as they see an alien.   ;D

Exactly! That is why before you invest or transfer btc to a site or anyone make sure to double check everything because scam is everywhere whether we like it or not, scammers normally tell you good things and they have put a lot of effort to make it look like a legit one. We should be very keen and vigilant in handling our coins because of the fact that as of right now there isn't much a way to reversed BTC transfers from your end unless the other person will send it back.

Well, its better that we never experienced scammed. The important is prepare always, because scam is anywhere and you dont know if who they are and its a serious if you a victim of scam.

I've been scammed for about $30 worth of bitcoin and it's about some Chinese guy that will ask for help in telegram that he will give the commission when we get the bitcoin out of that scammed website. I really don't know why i fall for it but i think because I'm desperate to make profit that day and my greediness end me up losing some btc. Well we can't do anything about it just learn from our mistakes and move on.
Same thing happened with me recently somebody contacted me through telegram about a month before asking help giving 50$+ worth of bitcoin he will give back in some as he is havign working business model he started to send message soon i blocked him . The major loss happendfor me  with lots of ICO and Crytpopia hack.

That was a sad experience OP though that time 13 BTC is not really that huge in terms of its liquidity compare to now where market price has gotten higher that reached to 8.7K USD. Well, in that case there is nothing we could do and you did the right thing whom to which you are crying with that incident. Now, it seems that many had learned lessons like this and many users now are aware on how to handle bitcoin to avoid getting scam.

And if you still gamble then I guess you have already chosen a good gambling site that will enable you to deposit your funds without getting scam. There are old good gambling sites that are operating right now and had a good reputation when it comes to online casino betting platform. I could suggest also on you to try 777 coin gambling site.

Getting scammed is never a nice thing and reading what other people have experienced shows that scammers prey on people's weakness to easily trust others...in the end genuine problems from honest people go without getting any help.

Yes plenty of times,
We all know that back before ICO's HYIP or PONZI SCHEMES are trendy and most of my social media friends are investor so I also tried it.
I have earned so many times through it but I also got scammed.
It is part of being an investor on those risky investment sites.

I've never been scammed in my entire life, it's pretty easy to avoid really, though sometimes you can just have bad luck.
There were a few times when I did something really stupid that could have caused me to get scammed, I'm thinking of giving a no-collateral loan to someone (just as The Pharmacist mentioned on page 1).

Luckily the person didn't end up scamming me, but they did scam someone else later on.

When you have never been scammed before and people share their experience, it sounds like a story. I was scammed for $100BTC. I was new to crypto and I received a mail that I have won $200 BTC. But to claim my reward, I need to send some money first. The mistake I made was that I didn't consult anyone about this matter and did whatever I wanted. I now regret taking that decision, but I have learnt my lesson the hard way.

A few years ago when I got into crypto I also started investing in HYIP using crypto because it was a faster and more secure way to deposit and withdraw money. I've lost dozens of money but I'm not sure if I can call this being scammed since I knew what are the risks by investing in this kind of projects but still my money were stolen meaning I got scammed.

I've never been scammed in my entire life... -snipped-
You are one of the very few who can say they havent been scammed even out of money from those phone schemes. As alot of people have been out of their hard earned money to these fraudsters over the phone.
Because even people who first got into crypto can remember seeing those hyip sites and probably put in a couple of satoshis to see if they paid out at the end of the week. This would also be considered getting scammed because they always collapse at the end.

If you tell that to a police officer the first thing he will ask is do you have any bank account information proof that you have to send him money and I do not think they will believe on blockchain transactions. Anyway, I also lost 0.016 btc back at 2013 on the Facebook group when I was just starting with Bitcoin. Facebook groups are full of scammers and especially if you are not careful they are going to treat you like bait.

People get scammed in scam bounties all the time. Don't forget that stealing peoples time and with lies and false work is not just stealing just dishonest and despicable even more so then a plain thief.
I think having time stolen is the worst theft. So I would say I have been scammed out of my time. I have learnt what to avoid but sometimes these scams are set up so well or they project just gives up.
You never hear from them again and all the coins you hoarded are now worth nothing, a legit project you could easily see holding as the right thing to do.

That is a classic scam. Then they keep the new deposit as well. Or they ask for your ID lol Such serious authority for a few $ xP

I was scammed when eth first started I opened a wallet on a site I didn't know I should have used mew and didn't even know what it was. Eth just came out and I opened one wallet on a website and you know you don't remember where you opened a wallet exactly, you just remember the address you look a the address so in the bounty form I added that address. Anyway, the pay was a  lot and I lost a few thousand $$$ I cried.
How can people do this to someone? Feels like decent people don't exist.

That's the worst thing you've done crying without doing anything, you should have gone to the authorities so they can trace who are the owners of this gambling site, you did not even mention the name of the gambling site if it is still online or ceases operation, but 20 Bitcoin is such a huge amount if this happens to me I don't think I would get over it.
