Title: linux distro Post by: Lacan82 on April 24, 2013, 07:34:02 PM Anyone have a guide to setup Linux for mining? or even just a distro fully for mining on a Linux box?
I normally mine on windows, but I'm setting up a new box and figured I'd use Linux instead. A couple on Fedora though i couldnt get it to work on Red hat.
sorry but i dont have any links to the guides.. seems video drivers are the biggest hurtle. Title: Re: linux distro Post by: Lacan82 on April 24, 2013, 08:52:46 PM someone should just take minepeon and adapt it for a big box :D

Available NOW, works with current mining software, 2GB RAM Quad cores and rock steady. I have a couple I use for running mining rigs, even running the python version they use less than 5% resources with 20 rigs. Feel free to put a bounty on it though :p . Such small chips fail once you start adding capacity, I have a couple of 400Mhz units and they max out at about 3 miners and start dropping connections, with the ~$100USD I can take it to over 20 miners and not even break 3% of resources. Try to remember that many of these cheap shitty chips chain ALL the external communication off the USB core, so basically you end up competing for resources against the ethernet infrastructure..... Title: Re: linux distro Post by: crazyates on April 28, 2013, 03:16:28 AM Oh ya there are dozens of lil ARM CPU sticks that you can use for mining. I use a MK802 II (http://www.amazon.com/Rikomagic-Generation-Android-Google-Player/dp/B0091UHMHO) to run my BFL Single (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=7216.msg1376515#msg1376515), but mine can be had for <$40, where as it's surprising how many are upwards of $100. As for the communications and USB issue, check out the chip layout: ODROID-U2 has the LAN go thru a USB controller, but a different one than the 2 external ports are on. http://www.quickembed.com/Tools/Shop/UploadPhotos/201301/20130103174659452.jpg The MK802II chip has the wifi running thru an "Extend Socket1", but doesn't seem to run thru the USB at all. http://olimex.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/a10.jpg I haven't had any network issues since I set the thing up several months ago. As I said, why pay $85 or $100+, when I can pay $40 and get a great system that does all of the same things? |
