Title: Want to mod MSI RX 470 Armor 8GB OC Post by: jackbox on April 12, 2017, 07:12:17 PM What would be the best way to mod this card for better hashing rates? I see people taking about modding the bios and moving memory straps 1500 to all higher memory frequencies. Is there anything else to be done? When I run MSI Afterburner the voltage is fixed (slider disabled) and everything I have tried to enable it has failed (config file change, etc.). Here is the info from my bios. Do You care about memory errors and clock down until the errors are about zero? Title: Re: Want to mod MSI RX 470 Armor 8GB OC Post by: sxafir on April 13, 2017, 02:26:38 PM Try using benchmark to overclock this card but if you do that artifacts may showing. This is no worth time.
Title: Re: Want to mod MSI RX 470 Armor 8GB OC Post by: AlainC on April 13, 2017, 08:20:11 PM Hi,
I'm beginner in GPU. I would just like to improve Ethereum Mining for my MSI RX470 4GB. (22.5MH/s on claymore) I've seem many comments and started to prepare all. My rig is linux (Ubuntu 16.04 with v17 AMD Pro drivers), and I have found ATIFlash for linux and saved by current bios (see below). On my laptop I have installed Polarisseditor. Is it enough to just use polariseditor to adjust few parameters ?it seems RAM timing are most important? What are the "memory strap" is it in VRAM the "timing", and how to change it ? What does the timing Hex values mean? Is it needed to really change the bios? I've made a pane gathering all the options available in PolarisEditor, what should be changed, for a noticeable improvement? Is there a safe method to tune the settings ? I've gathered the settings in Polaris editor. The straps seems to be the long hexadecimal values for VRAM, but I have no idea what it mean and what to change.. Code: ------------ here is my current bios: Code: adapter bn dn dID asic flash romsize test bios p/n I think I missed just a few keys, but hard to connect the many comments, hint and tricks ev If it works I think I could write the howto that could help people like me next time 8) Title: Re: Want to mod MSI RX 470 Armor 8GB OC Post by: novatrix on April 19, 2017, 02:14:50 PM Hi!

Keep a backup of your bios. PolarisBiosEditor allows to tune few key parameters. https://github.com/caa82437/PolarisBiosEditor (1.4 not compatible with elpida) https://github.com/tpruvot/PolarisBiosEditor/releases/tag/1.4.1 (less tested but works with elpida) For ETH mining usually you have to
all is better explained here http://cryptoyeti.com/rx470-bios-mod/ read also the spreadsheet there https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B6vofcgy8sqJbEZHMzkwQ3gzd00 and watch the bios. see too http://www.overclock.net/t/1604567/polaris-bios-editing-rx480-rx470-rx460 never use someone else bios, but open then with PolarisBiosEditor.exe, and see what they changed. go slowly, and let your mine work for a full day stable. I was happy with a change after 1 hour of test , but when I get to bed my miner fall into "incorrect shares"... now I go more modestly with : GPU at 1100MHz, strides 1500 copoed to 1500MHz+ VRAM ar 1750MHz if you brick your video card, often this mean you cannot login with video card. I work on Unbuntu, and when my card was bricked i could only login by SSH, and I have to reflash the stockrom with linux atiflash. It seems there is a DOS version of atiflash which work befoere windows... on windows however you have many tools like GPU-Z and a recent tools by AMD to overclock without flashing (forgot the name). it seems there is also a problem with windows and mod bios, because my ubuntu driver moan about bad signature of rom... and works anyway. for those interested I've made a script to use atiflash, backup previous rom, install ne, check, backup new... I've integrated it in my own "minerwatchdog"... when there is too many "incorrect share" in the miner log, I flash the stock prom and reboot... Frustrating to lose a night of mining because card was overclocked too much. after research a little bit Ive installed another driver version, and After burner detect it as (Crimson 16.6), Now i can mine with better Hashrate but ive got 25.4 maximum stable. It has a lower hashrate than DCR gets but make more money mining it. Average hash rate about 215 MH/s and the -dcri setting is 8. That is where I got the best ETH hashrate with PASC rate. I can get PASC much higher with higher -dcri but then ETH goes way down. Yes, as I've stated several times already I have Samsung memory and I run my card at 1880 memory speed. The straps are all 1500 straps. It works fine with the correct drivers. After read and research a little bit, Ive seen that some people using samsung rams increase memory clocks more than 1880 (arround 2000), but you have to decrease your coreclock and core voltage too. I think that to get the best performance, we have to use wattool to optimice each step P1-P7 and reduce power and temp. Later I will try some tests uning a spreadsheet to know wich could be the best settings. Or do you have already tested? Thanks again!
