Title: Astronomers piece together first image of black hole
Post by: Kemarit on April 13, 2017, 09:51:40 AM
After training a network of telescopes stretching from Hawaii to Antarctica to Spain at the heart of our galaxy for five nights running, astronomers said Wednesday they may have snapped the first-ever picture of a black hole.

It will take months to develop the image, but if scientists succeed the results may help peel back mysteries about what the universe is made of and how it came into being
.
"Instead of building a telescope so big that it would probably collapse under its own weight, we combined eight observatories like the pieces of a giant mirror," said Michael Bremer, an astronomer at the International Research Institute for Radio Astronomy (IRAM) and a project manager for the Event Horizon Telescope.

Awesome, but I imagine the image will not be soo impressive. I mean, the hole is black, the background is
black..  ;D

Can't be sure about anything. They are still developing the image, and the article says that it won't be ready at least for the next 5-6 months. Just a little bit disappointed that we only have the artist's renderings till then.  ;D

OK, I retract what I wrote. In the article it says:
Quote
Theoretical astronomy tells us when a black hole absorbs matter—planets, debris, anything that comes too close—a brief flash of light is visible.

Nice progress.
Technology keep improving anytime.
Hope in near future astronomers will found one planet that can sustain life of humanity

They are advancing in the exploration of the cosmos, but still very slowly. The aliens have already outstripped us by several thousand years ahead ;D

This is really good news for mankind. We will finally see what black hole really looks like. Black hole was one of the most debatable topic is astronomy, and we will finally put some issues as closed once the whole picture is shown.

I am really afraid of these black holes. It seems to me that it is better not to touch them. Still don't know what it can do hadron collet, and black holes much more dangerous.

Quantum computers and we have the image faster hopefully.
I'm afraid all we'll see is going to be just black.

Hopefully we get a glimpse of another universe there.

I'd really like to leaf through an Astronomy Magazine from the year 2200.
That would be awesome. So sad about the many miracles we will never
get an explanation for, because we are born too early^^

Who knows what is best. Of course we see many inventions and discoveries, but ha we were born and live in a time when there were no world wars. There are always positive and negative sides. Learn to be happy positive.

Ya sure, it's not that I'm crying every day because of that ;) It just boggles my mind.

I am definitely waiting to see it, It would be amazing if it was a video and they could show a black hole in action. I hope the sun doesn't collapse one day and cause a black hole anytime soon.

That is a very good and an ingenious idea and it really have placed a big deal of research and knowledge in order for this to come into fruition. I was amazed by its ability and power that in the article they said that it can even locate and see a golf ball in the moon. Just by reading it I can already imagine how powerful the combined power of the telescopes are.

It's very cool that the technology has evolved so that we can now see many discoveries in space.

Meeting with a black hole, for the Earth, is the least likely, from all possible space encounters. The point is that black holes, as already mentioned, are very massive objects. By mass, they are comparable or more stars. Objects of such a mass can not sneak up unnoticed, they will first act on the external object for a long time with their gravity, changing the type of its movement.

Not really sure it's entirely going to be black as we haven't seen anything likr an actual black hole but hopefully they release the entire image to the public as i'm also curious to see how it looks like. Perhaps its just black but definitely there will a distinction that it's a black hole

Very interesting, I think we will see something, maybe just a flash of light. Would be dissapoint wait months and can't see nothing, just black. Anyway, I hope that this investigation imply next discoveries.
