8-Year-Old Ohio Boy Drives His Little Sister to McDonald's After Learning How by Watching YouTube Videos

An 8-year-old Ohio boy took his 4-year-old sister on a joy ride to McDonald’s after they began craving cheeseburgers.

According to FOX 8, the incident occurred on Sunday around 8 p.m. after the children’s dad arrived from work and went to bed early.

Officer Jacob Koehler told FOX 8 that the kids decided to leave after their mother had fallen asleep on the couch. Witnesses later saw the boy driving his father’s work van and called the police.

Koehler told the news station the boy drove about a mile from his home with his little sister in the back of the van. He drove through four intersections and over railroad tracks.

In a surprising twist, witnesses told the police the boy obeyed all traffic laws and drove the speed limit, FOX News reports.....

I'm lucky we have MacDonald's which is a 5 minute walk from our home. So I can sleep at night knowing that my car is safe from my kids getting cheeseburgers with fries to go please.  ;D

I still go to McDonald's (only rarely), but I never tend to drive, always walk or bike for exercise.
In other news... As their workers "scream" for a ridiculous $15/hour, they are asking to be replaced by fast-food robots and computers.

Probably be safer for the kids to risk driving than walking the streets at that time of the night in this messed up world.

This will make a great story at both the kids 21st party speeches

Yabut. This proves that McDonalds puts MSG into their foods so that kids crave it. Sue them for the right thing.

To my point of view, in order a child 8 years old to get the car keys and use the car means that already knew the basics of driving. Therefore one of the two parents had already learned him how to do (I wonder why the parents doing something like that). In my opinion both of the parents showed criminal indifference and negligence in the upbringing of their children. The police and the court would be impose to them strict penalty because of their behavior.

What! Everything you said is based on assumptions, kids pick things up pretty quick so it wouldn't surprise me that a kid knows how to put a key in a car, probably seen his dad do it 1000 times already.
You can't really blame the parents for this and especially not so when you don't know them.

Talk about a fast learner, while a kid should not drive, this show to us the amazing power that kids have to learn new activities.

I'm just in shock. Of course it says in the summer that the boy constantly went with his father and that the boy is attentive. This is of course very rare, but it's good that everything ended well.

Of course I don't know the parents of the kid but If I'm not mistaken according to the law the parents are responsible for their children until they reach on their adulthood. Is not that right? On the other hand if the driver (8 years old) was causing an accident, say a crash with another car or if a pedestrian got hurt who would be responsible? The child or any of the parents? At last driving a car is not only to put the key in a car but someone have know to pull the hand brake put the lever of the gearbox from parking to drive and so on.

Lol, funny but actually true i guess.

At least the kid knew where to seek advice before he actually starting driving that car. I mean the training that adults receive aren't that much more advanced compared to youtube clips either :P

Its cool this kid did that. We were afraid that our parents would beat us if we did something like this. When I was 14 I used to move my parents cars off the driveway and back to set them up for the next morning when they would go to work. My older brother left first so his car had to be the last to go in. Oh the good ole' days..

It was almost certainly it an automatic transmission. There is no way an 8 year old is driving a manual lol.

Youtube can be very useful for learning lot of stuffs, but the parents have to find a way to limit he access to computer for the little kids who still cannot understand stuff in proper way.

This is quite interesting. Imagine that there are two choices: the first one is an eight-year old boy who obey all the traffic rules and drive at the speed limit. The second one is an adult, who never bothers about the traffic rules and always drive under the influence of alcohol. Which one will you prefer?

I advice all parents to keep the keys of their car for the safetiness of the kids. Though the kid on the story can able to obey traffic lights and there is no incident that happened still it would not be safe for kids at a very young age to drive and travel alone. They need guidance of parents. It's better to be safe than sorry.

I'd probably pick the kid in this case. However, it still isn't safe for a kid that young to be driving. Especially since any accident that did occur could become fatal.

I'm also wondering how he was able to reach the pedals and see above the steering wheel at the same time lol. Must have been a tall 8 year old.

Given the circumstances I'd say this story has a good ending. I feel like things could have gone a lot worse, but I'm glad they didn't.
I can just imagine the boy on his way out of the driveway saying "16yrs of age to get a learner's permit is to old anyway  :P."
