Title: [0.05BTC] Find me a world record
Post by: 420 on April 25, 2013, 03:09:47 AM
I want to know what the world record is for longest consecutive drive. that is one person, one car, driving without stopping. or stopping for no more than 5 minutes or something (like traffic light) he has to eat and piss in the car you know

EDIT: upped the reward

There's  Longest distance driven on one tank of fuel: Helen and John Taylor set world record
http://www.worldrecordacademy.com/transport/longest_distance_driven_on_one_tank_of_fuel_Helen_and_John_Taylor_set_world_record_112870.html
but I don't see a record for longest consecutive drive yet.

yeah. i need consecutive time awake driving. that would be 26 2/3 hours at 60mph if they drove it straight

You're still looking for a single driver, right?

I don't think there's much attention for single drivers (for one thing, it's dangerous and therefore possibly illegal). Plus, single drivers probably drive more than 24 hours all the time so no one pays any attention :P

If you do release that restriction, I would like to submit 11 days, 17 hours and 22 minutes of non-stop driving by a 3-man team:

http://www.trucktrend.com/features/news/2011/163_news110720_volkswagen_touareg_tdi_sets_record_on_worlds_longest_highway/viewall.html

Edit: It mentions they beat the last record by 3 days, which means the previous record holders actually spent more time in their car... I think most of these records for long drives will be about the fastest drive, not most time spent.

I drove this http://goo.gl/maps/EXSVd

Took more than 30 hours because it was during the winter and I stopped for gaz and food. I saw the sunrise 3 times in the same day since we left at the end of day 1.

Second time, I managed to drive a little bit longer but not much : http://goo.gl/maps/TFES8

3000km seem to be the maximum I can drive without sleeping.

Not sure if I could apply for a world record since it's technically illegal in Canada to drive that much without sleep.

You get both a ticket and a certificate for your record.  :P
Anyhow, I don't think 30 hours is the max yet.

This guy drove 44 hr 46 minutes.

http://www.indietalk.com/showthread.php?t=16551

Looks like Guiness doesn't have a record of this type, though, so I don't know about finding an official source.

Do I win?

Jenkins exhausting, 48-hour record is still on the books together with 15 other FIA records from 1940.

Coffee and energy drinks. After 40 hours, I usually begin to see cars and trucks that don't exist suddenly disappearing. Then I stop to get some sleep. Driving that much is not smart... Did it only twice when I was younger.

This is the problem--no one remembers how slow someone was  :D

The 48-hour record means it was the fastest (shortest time) at that time. There were probably people who took 50+ hours, but no one recorded them because they were the losers...

Still researching the subject, looks like the Ab Jenkins 48 hour record was with another driver for a portion(unsure atm of the total consecutive time).  For the 24 hour endurance trips he took 30 second refueling breaks but the driver remained in the seat.

is there a deadline on this?

This is what I found on out on my lunch break.

According to Julie, at Guinness Book of World Records. This record attempt in the United States would be illegal to drive consecutively. You will need to abide by the same laws a trucker would. Allowing 11 hours for driving and 10 consecutive hours off after driving time. Where your record attempt would come in would be spending this time in the vehicle  while driving and off the clock. meaning you cant leave the vehicle. Yes, even for bathroom breaks. Refueling will be tricky, you may a lot yourself 10 mins to get gas, then its back in the vehicle. You may also have someone pump gas for you to keep from being disqualified from extra time spent paying for gas or standing in line.  Julie also stated that depending on your record attempt you can break multiple records during that period. Most miles driven without leaving vehicle, States visited, Towns passed through, and so on.
She recommended coming up with you record Idea, break it down to exactly how much time you will be in the vehicle, how you will eat and abide by any laws in the area you will be attempting the record. She also said that during the record attempt it would be best to notify authorites in areas you will be traveling through, if any laws are broken the record does not count.
Currently NO WORLD RECORD exist,  So type out your record proposal and send to Guinness World records, there contact info is below. After the proposal is enter you will be contacted by Guinness, to let you know how to provide proof, some case's a Guinness Witness may need to be Present at the time of the record. So those are the details you will have to work out with them
Julie, referred me to this contact info so you can submit your proposal. On Guinness Webpage- http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/contact/

This might be interesting to you too 420---Nicolas Rapp spent a year trying to drive around the world and documented everything http://transworldexpedition.com/ it's pretty neat.

"In the summer of 2009, Nicolas Rapp decided to take a break from his Art Director job at The Associated Press to attempt a one-year overland travel around the world in a 1996 Toyota Land Cruiser. He was back in New York in February 2011 after traveling 15 months and 37,000 miles."

There is no officially sanctioned "record" for the longest time driving solo without stopping at all. Guinness does not support any attempt at it because of the danger of driving without food, bathroom break, and especially sleep. So, the answer to your question is that there is none. Is that worth any bitcoins?
