Title: Need help understanding PIVX address
Post by: epurezen on April 15, 2017, 05:47:30 AM
Hello,

I have some ethereum in a wallet at bittrex and I'm trying to buy some PIVX, however the PIVX address seems to be in something other than hexa. For example, the eth address is 0xabc3a82747637e8093e25ab74101f5a..... and the pivx address is D8i9xg1GabVyZjUSdUXT5AXu6rUFF3BgPF (notice it has no 0x at the start, at least that's how it's displayed in bittrex. Also if I'm trying to transfer eth from my wallet, I get this message: "In the withdrawal address field, we only support hex addresses. DO NOT use direct iban, indirect iban, or unique userid. A proper hex address starts with "0x""

So, in this case, how can I buy some pivx? It's not possible to transfer from a ETH wallet to a PIVX wallet? I need to convert to something else first or how?

Thanks!

You can't send coins from one network to another (Eth to Pivx) as they're completely different, unconnected networks.

Your best bet of getting Pivx is by selling your Eth for Bitcoin then buying Pivx from said Bitcoin. There's no direct Ethereum to Pivx market, everything is traded for Bitcoin so you can only trade in two steps.

Ethereum is unique with its hex addresses, the majority of coins out there use the shorter form like the one you mentioned before for Pivx.

I'm coming back just for another final question: To transfer from bitcoin to pivx I need an exchange? Or can I just send coins from one bitcoin address to a pivx address? Thank you!

yes, or you can do private trading and get the pivx, this si like buying pivx, and no you can never send coins from one blockchain to another one, they use different address, don't fall for the first letter, even if they start with the same letter the hash is different, so be aware, always use an exchange
