Title: does anyone know how to work a square account
Post by: An0nyMoose on April 16, 2017, 10:02:46 AM
I didn't know before signing up that square can not be certified with prepaid checking accounts or I would not have done a first charge to my credit card of $50 (minus fees I recieved 48..) and my savings account is being rejected because of my credit union.  Any ideas?  I don't want to open up a checking account just to do square... and I don't want to issue a refund to myself and lose the processing fee (even though it's nothing significant that's ugh). Anyone ever dealt with square before?  I know that one I add a bank account I can add my debit cards which is what I thought was fun but I'm not really even sure if square links with the squareup which is what I thought it was... Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

Weird that they'd be that different than PayPal. My experience with PayPal was that my credit union savings account was valid for credits/debits ("transactional" per https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/3896-link-and-edit-your-bank-account).

Have you asked your credit union for savings account-specific routing/account numbers to give to Square, or if only certain credit unions have a workaround for savings accounts?

In the end I closed my account because of Reg D (https://thebutterzone.wordpress.com/2013/02/10/bitcoins-u-s-savingsmoney-market-accounts-dont/). I wonder if the reg changed in the last few years to make all savings accounts, or credit union savings accounts, non-transactional.

Thank you for responding... I have tried calling my bank but they are unfamiliar with Square so they don't know exactly what I need. Lame... but it's life  :P

Thank you for responding :)

1) ABA routing number - search on http://www.bankrouting.org/ or http://www.lovemycreditunion.org/sprint-credit-union-member-discount/sprint-routing-number-look-up
2) Your savings account number
