I read on this group people that run 8 with z270 chip, with m2 to pcie or usb extender yep but that is not a basic setup. Some have done up to 8 with pcie splitter But 7 is the basic limit. And most will tell 5 or 6 makes more sense. The one I got from ebay did not and I was refunded. Not even if the system has only one gpu installed. So except for people that has modified custom MB I don't know of anyone who is has gotten more than 7 rx cards working.

So except for people that has modified custom MB I don't know of anyone who is has gotten more than 7 rx cards working. the M.2 is normally shared with one of the PCI-e slots on the intel 2xx chipset. They work. https://www.nicehash.com/?p=news&id=155 Of course you enter the problem with power supplies at a high enough rating, in which case it's usually easier to build two rigs with more affordable components etc. A 9 card RX 4XX/5XX rig uses a lot less power than the old R9/280X 6 card rigs from a few years ago.
