Title: EDIT: KncMiner needs to talk!
Post by: Jocky on April 25, 2013, 12:38:14 PM
KncMiner doesn't seem to be responding to e-mails about questions from the community. In this article (http://bitcoin-square.com/the-community-needs-kncminer-to-talk/) we describe that we've contacted KncMiner to answer some questions bout their ridiculous prices. And we've heard nothing whatsoever.

We've just published an article about KncMiner's latest specification updates. Untill now, their prices ought to be $3000 for the first 500 units, and $1500 thereafter. The plans have changed and they now plan to ship two items, Mars and Jupiter. One of which can mine up to 250 GH/s.

$2000-3000 for 6 GH/s?

Thats only ten times more than BFL is selling comparable 5GH/s for?  They probably wont ever ship them but 2-3K for 6 GH/s is crazy when they are gonna sell 250 GH/s for 7K.

I was thinking about getting one, but with the amount of avalon asic chips about to ship in the next couple of months I think difficulty will be going way up and there is probably no point.

why, yes, i'll pay $3000 for 8ghash instead of $7000 for 250ghash

is this for real?  ::)

I don't think they have development funds yet.

Paying the $2800 up-front only makes sense if you're going to buy the 250gh monster that comes after, for $2k less. So the 6gh/sec is only $800 with that taken into consideration. Not bad really.

That gives them seed money to pay for their process. And if you missed BFL/Avalon, this is the best thing going now.

Probably, a lot of asic startups end up being scams.

They really need to build some trust.
I wonder if their JUPITER unit will be ready in autumn, it sounds again very vague...

This smells like BFL in June 2012.  No product, no prototype, just vague specifications and promises of insane speed for extremely low cost compared to what's already on the market.

I'd consider this a scam until they at least demonstrate a prototype.
