Title: Reasons for Underclocking? Post by: lemonys on April 25, 2013, 12:56:36 PM I have read that some folks underclock their GPU memory speed and undvervolt the power of the GPU card. Can someone explain what this does and how it helps? Is it purely to cut down on power consumption?

My limited understanding is that scrypt calculations are much more memory intensive, which is why they are ASIC resistant. Can anyone confirm this? And if so, then underclocking memory is not very beneficial for me, right?

The ideal thing to do is under-volting. This is basically free reduction of power consumption and therefore heat production and with no loss of MHash. This can, however, only be taken down so far. |
