Title: Can't overclock second GPU
Post by: cabslock on April 17, 2017, 03:39:44 PM
So I just ran into a problem.
I have two cards on one of my rigs and I can only overclock the one that's in the main PCI-Ex16 slot.
It doesn't matter which card I put there, I can only overclock that one.
If I change the memory clock of the second card the hashrate and power consumption don't change, but every program shows that the momory clock has been changed.
My cards are MSI RX 480 gaming X 4GB and Sapphire RX470 nitro+ 4GB. Mobo is MSI X87-G55

Has anybody had the same problem or could just suggest a solution?

What overclock software you use afterburner or trixx?, i think this problem due to the brand of the gpus not the same , i have this problem with a board mounted with two cards msi and gigabyte i can overclock but can't control fans speeds efficently ,always the gigabyte one don't follow the afterburner fan set correctly.

Have you tried with Wattool or even directly with Wattman directly?

I have used wattman and afterburner.
Don't think it's a brand issue. If i plug the sapphire card into the main PCI-E slot I can overclock it with afterburner.

You may try the Trixxx.

Okay, so I tried Trixx also and that also does nothing. It shows that the memory clock changes, but mH/s nor power consumption change.
Even weirder is, that when I undervolt in Wattman, then the power consumption lowers. I also can control the fan speed.

Okay, so I have found that I can only clock the card that has the monitor connected to it.

I have the opposite problem i can only overclock and bios flash the one not connected to monitor.

It is "funny" how we all have different problems. I can flash them both perfectly but the card with the monitor cable in it will only hash 8 mh/s while the other one will do 29 mh/s. If I put the monitor cable in the other gpu the results swap too. When I place my nvidia (1080) in the mobo and put the cable in that one then they all 3 mine full power... It's a frustrating process.

So true LOL i feel like they have mind of there own!! i would have random cards wouldn't boot than i had to do 1+8 pin boot reflash original bios and than flash them again with modded version it gets frustrating @ current point if the rig is mining i tend not to mess around with it to squeeze out free extra hashes not worth the pain when things go wrong my rigs are down sometimes down for few hours at a time.

Maybe try some HDMI dummy plugs?
