Without dummy plug we can still run stuff. But BIOS must be changed so that default graphic is the motherboard graphic. Also watttool and msi afterburner won't be able to interact with the card. That being said, is it true? Why? And anyone can solve that? I think using dummy plug is fine. But in case things go wrong with the card due to mod bios or stuff, it's easier to deal with the rig if main display is motherboard. I have used them to mine ETH, ZEC & XMR with up to 6 AMD GPUs and up to 4 Nvidia GPUs (in different combinations) running Ethos (a custom version of Ubuntu Linux I think), Windows 7 & Windows 8.1. I have always just plugged a monitor into the GPU which is in the x16 PCIe slot (and keyboard and sometimes mouse) when I need to do anything to them, and I unplug it when I don't need it. If I have to reboot, I'm pretty sure that I have to have a monitor plugged in if I then later want to use it, but when I run Ethos I can reboot without a monitor or a dummy plug and then I can just use an SSH connection from another machine. When using Windows (which I only use for rig with Nvidia GPUs), I do not have any automatic startup .bat file so I have to have a monitor plugged in and manually start the miner - which is why I have been looking around for a good Linux distro for mining with Nvidia machines, which can control overclocking and powerlimit as well as MSI Afterburner - but once it has booted and is running I can just unplug the monitor and then plug it in later if necessary. I have control over the 4 GPUs with afterburner. I don't think I have ever tried booting a Windows rig without a monitor plugged in. I don't remember how I setup the BIOS when I started but I'm pretty sure I have disabled everything I don't need - CPU onboard graphics, audio, serial ports, parallel ports, etc. Title: Re: Does anyone use asrock btc without dummy plug (or it's equivalent) Post by: cmar on April 18, 2017, 09:22:30 AM So i Have Acrock PRo BTC rel 2.0 without dummy. But i have another problem, i use 4xRx 470. If windows (10) to do some update with restart always my rig booting to the uefi and write to display that i have to connect additional power for PCI-e. (there is a connector on mothermoard for add power to PCIE) I use pci risers with power .. so i dont understood this one. Because in this time i am in work, my rig not working ..
