Title: Mining setup help - Software
Post by: cryptotore on April 20, 2017, 12:54:20 PM
Hi,

Could anyone tell me what OS/software you guys use on your GPU rigs?
I havent been in the GPU mining scene for a while, so any recommendations would be appreciated!

My current eth rig is running stock Win 8.1 with teamviewer for remote management.
Using claymore miner software, ETH only, with Sapphire R9 390 Tri-X, which gives me around 28 mh/s avg.

I'm building new rigs today, and want to know if Win 8.1 is still the shizzle? Or is Win10 working ok?
I'm building with Asus Z270-P and RX 580 GPU's.

Thanks!

If you plan on running 6 cards I think you will need to do Win10.  I tried getting 5 cards to work in Win7 and couldn't, changed to Win10 and now have 2 rigs up and running.

I would also check into the 5xx series... From what I have been reading the 470 is still going to be a better route.
I have a 480 8Gb rig and a 470 (3x4Gb 2x8Gb).  Getting nearly same hash out of both but the 470's are using about 20W less than the 480's

Good luck!
Bones

I am not sure it works for your configuration, but there's a "Mining OS" around, you could read more of it https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1541084.0
Also the threads about mining made by philipma1957 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=64507) clearly worth a read.

From what I know mining works better on Linux than Windows.
