Title: Anyone using the $80 AMD Radeon RX 550 yet?
Post by: piratek on April 21, 2017, 12:57:30 PM
I'm thinking of rebuilding some GPU rigs, has anyone used the $80 RX 550s in a GPU rig yet?

Curious about it too.  I think I read that it did not have an external power connector meaning all power is provided over the PCIe slot itself.  I suspect that will severely limit what these can do.  But wouldn't mind hearing first hand reports.

Based on the number of cores ( 512 ) these should perform similar to 1/4 of a 470.  IMO miners are better off getting a 470 or 570 4gb at around $150 - $170.

So what's that like 6.25 mining ETH at stock with basically almost no ability to OC since the limitations are in the mobo itself?  Well that does sound like a waste of time.

It looks to be 10-15% faster then a Rx 460 which gets 10 Mh/s. I would not buy a Rx 550 for mining (nor a 460 for that matter).

your looking at the 560;

the 550 has 512 cores

Good point ^ the 550 ought to be even worse.... also with only 2GB of VRAM it won't even run some of the most popular miners.

With 2GB VRAM, it cannot even mine ethereum. FYI, last year November was the last month that 2GB VRAM GPU could still mine ETH. If you want to mine ETH, try getting a AMD RX 470/480. Both cards offer good bang for the buck and you might be to earn the card for free by mining and then selling concurrency.

mining now with sapphire rx 550 4gb something like 7-8MHs eth, stock settings /zec 70, xmr 250/

Total trash for the money spent since the 4GB version is more costly. Youd be much better off with a $100-$110 4GB 460 pushing 12-13, maybe even 14-15 with shader unlock BIOS.

Cheapest 4GB 550 I can find is $99.99 so yeah, a 4GB 460 for $10 more would make a lot more sense, especially the XFX model from bestbuy ($109) that can be unlocked to 1024 shaders(AKA RX 560).

Febuary of this year IIRC is when the last of my 2GB cards stopped being able to mine ETH - they were NVidia GTX 950/960 though not AMD.
I'd already moved all of my 2GB AMD cards over to ZEC months before that point as it was a lot more profitable for them.

The RX 550 is going to be a fairly low performer - same core count as my HD 7750s but higher clock - I'd estimate 80 sol/s ballpark on ZEC, perhaps as high as 90, depending on overclock.

NOT worth the money IMO, even at current GOUGE pricing on most higher-end cards.

I recently decided to experiment with the 550/560 2 and 4gb models. vI had 2 560 4gb, 1 560 2gb, 1 550 4gb, and 1 550 2gb.

Not only is it a very profitable coin, but it also, in my opinion, will start to spike up in the next months let alone years so it works well for me.

The hashrates are roughly the following:

550 2gb 85-90
560 2gb 105-110

550 4gb 115-120
560 4gb 130-136

The reason I even purchased them was because I had a few extra mobo's and cpu's etc at my house, and the electricity is is pretty damn low. Not to mention the insanity of prices for all decent mining cards lately.

And I felt this was a great hypothesis to test because I mined with them for 29 days and returned them on day 30 :P

Still profitable even with top tier electricity, but it was more just for kicks

Just buy a GTX 1050 for same price, and get 150 sol. Why bothering with Radeons?

I know that these cards mine eth at 11mh

It's ok I guess.

since claymore version 9.7 mining 10+Mhs with sapphire rx 550 /mode 1 - single mode/

You can tell when there must be a really shortage of GPUs when people are considering buying the RX 550 GPUs.

Even the RX 560 is not worth the hassle.

Try and buy some R9 270X or R9 7970/280x from Craiglist instead.

2GB RAM... you can't even mine ETH with this. The D.A.G. is too bad for this card.

They are desperate, stupid, mentally disordered, soon they will buy all gtx 1030 for $1000 each!!!
