Title: How many newbie posts?
Post by: Mushai on April 26, 2013, 05:22:11 AM
How many posts do I need to make before I can post a reply to the thread I need to post in?

(I signed up to the forum because I need to reply to the ozcoin thread with some info for Great)

Don't really have any other questions, and don't really want to spam up the newbie section with useless comments, but it appears that I have to according to the rules.

I understand that these rules are designed to keep newbies from annoying more seasoned forum members, but i really don't like having to spam the newbie forum. Just following the rules.

Aren't you abusing the system somewhat...?

I'm following the rules. Have to make 5 posts to get out of newbie jail. I dont like having to do it, but how else would I get to 5 posts?  Make up questions to ask that I dont need to know the answers to? reply to other peoples threads with pointless cool story bro type comments? I was at work, and couldn't trawl throught the newbie threads looking for things to answer.

Have been mining since last year, so not exactly a newbie, just never needed a forum account on here before, as ozcoin had its own forum, which was recently closed,  probably due to the them being hacked.

I think you can PM him after 1 post.

Thanks Peto. The issue has been fixed now  anyway.

Just a tiny bit of thought might have allowed you to realized that you could have created a single post in the Newbie Forum saying whatever it is that you needed/wanted to say in the other thread.  Then at the beginning (or end) of that post you could have simply asked for a non-newbie to re-post it for you to the thread where you wanted it.

Voila! You don't have to "spam" the Newbie Forum, AND you get your post into the thread where you want it without having to wait for 4 hours!

The rules do not require you to "spam up the newbie section with useless comments".  That's a decision you've made for yourself.

thank you for this - that way at least we can keep our spam to this section instead of all over the newbie jail.

someone told me it was 10 posts, and 4 hours logged in time - hoping it is only 5 posts though

It's 5 Posts and 4 hours logged in to be able to post everywhere.

It's 10 posts in order to put links into your signature.

I personally don't like the restriction of where people can post and do not think it is the best idea. I have not seen other forums doing this, so I was just wondering why this forum was doing it? I mean isn't the point of a forum to allow people to post wherever they want? ???

it is probably not so much to restrict real life people, but more to restrict bots and spammers.. i am guessing

No.  The point of the forum is to allow people to engage in intelligent and useful discussion on a topic of shared interest.  The restrictions help reduce the amount of unintelligent useless spam, trolls, bots, and flames in the other topics.

i think the newbiejail is pretty counter-intuitive as it promotes spamming the newbie section of the forum just so you can post in the real forum.

I also have to post some to get full access, so here I am contributing irrelevant data to the database :)

It should promote intelligent and useful discussion in the Newbie Forum along with time for Newbies to learn a bit about Bitcoin and the Forum.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of Newbies who have the patience of a 4 year old, and feel that spam is a much more useful way to get 5 posts.

but newbies will spam this forum and many more experienced persons will likely avoid this part of the forum as a direct result. Therefore, only newbies will answer newbies questions, which doesn't seem very helpful at all to me.

I've got over 2,700 posts, and over a year participating in discussions here at BitcoinTalk.org, and yet here I am seeing you post in the Newbie Forum.

Here's a link (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=187577.msg1943651#msg1943651) to someone with over 9,000 posts, and over 18 months participating in discussions here at BitcoinTalk.org, and yet there they are are seeing and responding to a post in the Newbie Forum:

There are plenty of experts who frequent and participate in the Newbie Forum.

lol

I'm thinking the same but I understand that it is a good idea to prevent spamming the main forum.
