yes, you can run 6 GPU cores in Win7.
I don't know about the error you are getting though.
Used 13.1, and no issues.

I use same type, but not same brand.
However, you should be able to run different classes of cards, example, 5xxx, 6xxx, and 7xxx all in one machine.

IIRC, most people trying to get 6 GPUs working end up running into MB issues, rather than GPU issues. Try disabling as much as you can in the BIOS, audio card, wifi, secondary sata, firewire, etc. Then put as many GPUs as you can on PCIe 1x riser cards.

i have powered risers and i can use all the slots to run the cards, but only 4 or 5 at once
all cards get detected in the device manager so this cant be a MB problem?

it must be some kind of driver issue .... as on 11.12 i can run 5 cards

I am trying to get 5 7970 running on MSI Z77A-G45, only 4 properly install, one will get yellow ! mark in device manager. Tried 13.4 and 13.3 beta 3 on win7 x64. I am able to get 8 5000 series GPUs installed on the same board, so its not a limit of motherboard i think.

Halp?

edit: 13.1 wont work either
edit: nor 12.10
edit: nor 12.8
edit: 12.6 seems to have worked, but only for up to 5 up from 4! Included a picture down below. It seems the driver is -barely- scraping by as some devices have not successfully installed. It is possible they are linked to VRM temperature sensors since they are detected to be about 25C for both core and RAM VRM, but it's also possible the sensor is faulty since the other VRM sensors seem accurate. Also, included AMD APP for 12.6 seems slow/doesn't like RAM underclocking. 13.3 beta 3 AMD APP does not work with 12.6. The AMP APP with 13.1 is the highest compatible one that works with 12.6.

All cards are 1100 core and 340 RAM and 100% fan. Those fuckers are hot.

edit: 12.4 also has max of 5.
edit: 12.3 also has max of 5.
edit: 12.2 also has max of 5.

you would need quite a bit of ram to run 6. 12gb min ram.

I don't intend to scrypt mine.
