Title: Decentralized Internet
Post by: Kencha77 on April 26, 2017, 03:23:23 PM
So I had recently watched the new episode of Silicon Valley. Basically, the episode talked about Richard (Main Character) wanting to create a decentralized internet which uses the computing power of our devices, together with his very powerful compression algorithm, to run this "new internet". This is a nice concept because it's somewhat similar on how blockchain works and it can solve the internet privacy issues.
Now i searched for this "decentralized internet with the use of blockchain technology" and found out that we have this kind of technology and many others working on this already (one is blockstack ).

Can we say that, just like cryptocurrencies as the future of currencies, decentralized internet is the future of internet?

How can you have a decentralized internet when it runs on top of the regular internet? If you want truly decentralized internet then someone needs to make a mesh network of connected routers. Bypassing the internet entirely. The only way to get on the regular internet would be through users that create gateways. We would need powerful transmitters to do something like this. Unfortunately the FCC and other such entities will not allow this. Sorry, this is a pipe dream and will never happen or be allowed to happen.
