I'm sorry that you sold your stake early.

Nobody knew how high this project could go, but the development has been solid for so long now and the product is starting to get utilized.

May I ask at what level you decided to jump ship?

I guess I missed this one ot I am not yet back here on Bitcointalk when that airdrop happen,but always happen on airdrop coins you never know the potential,recently renos is making a comeback but already sold all my stakes,always yourself to blame for being an unbeliever.

Everybody has their own luck on these kinds of things and probably it wasn't yours. Usually, these coins are really hard to predict and sometimes it's just because some whale was pumping it and waiting for it to just go up and just dump at the right moment. If you profited from it, just be happy.

So NEM was an airdrop? I don't think I was into crypto then. I started as late as 2015.

I sold my stake early in the project forgot what i made, i remember people having a bunch of accounts too well it was a issue back in the day i remember them trying to figure out who was cheating the system, but guarenteed some people got a bunch of stakes that they didnt catch

I can't help but think, that most people sold "too early". You'd either need balls of high grade steel or a time machine to not sell your free stash at a good spike.

Would be interesting to know how many of the original airdrop participants still hold strong.

I had 2 stakes through this forum but lost the private key for one of them.. I had the wallet password and have the address of the coins so I can look at my second stake,  but lost the wallet file in a computer format and didn't backup my private key.  If microsoft had not released windows 10 I'd have a second stake. I do still have my one stake and haven't sold any yet.. amazing yes it's worth $100K. If I didn't think the coin had as much or more potential than Ethereum I'd sell now.. I said I'd sell when it hit a nickel. Will probably regret not selling.. but as long as this crypto bubble continues NEM should hold up as well as any other top 10 coin.. I'm gambling it will hit number 4 market cap and be somewhere around 800 million to a billion market cap within a month or two.

Wait until kraken and other exchanges start to cover NEM and we'll see if we get more volume and interest.

Well, atleast you had a profit. Imagine, there are lots of people who did not check the forum for about 2 years, did not participate in the distribution process, now they have their coins in their wallets but they cannot and never will access them. I regret not  purchasing an additional stake for a friend / relative, because I thought that spending another 0,075 btc for participation would be too much. And I bought additional 0,1 stake (225000 coins) for $100 on the asset exchange and then I started to think that it was quite expensive too. Who could know the ending result, if nem was planned as a nxt clone in the very beginning? there were lots of other promising  projects, nem was only one of them

Which begs the question how much XEM is lost in oblivion.. we know at least 2,250,000 of it is.. one of my stakes. :p

I would say about 150 million among those, who were intial stakeholders, judging by the rich list. But the thing is that most of these people did not pay a single cent, they were just reading the forum, saw that something is being offered for free, left a single message and forgot about it. I was among the last ones being accepted and I have paid 0,075, it was around 30-40 bucks I think

More seriously, I feel like those magical days of crypto are, if not completely over, are at least drawing to a close.

Stories of 20,000 bitcoin pizzas will be like my stories to my nieces and nephews about 300 baud dial-up modems and single-line BBS's running on C64s.

It was a long wait before it finally start soaring but I think it is for the best that they prioritized development and not hyping the coin. Now we can see the fruit and everything is generic not just hyped.

Some stakes was even sold at 200 sats. I just can't imagine how they feel right now.

I had a lot of coins and I have sold about 1.8 million at 55 sats. You see that the price goes down and down every month, I have decided to sell and rebuy at the lower rate, but the price remained the same for another couple of months. It is not the best decision in my life, but there is nothing you can do about it. Lots of people were in the same situation. I would feel much worse if I knew that I have the money in the wallet but I am not able to access it.

However I do respect the developers a lot, look at the ico's that are happening now. They collect millions and still are able to get no results, in nem they have collected about 60 btc or so, and look where the project is now.

You don't need balls of steel. All you have to do is sit there and do nothing. I am one of them. And I bought a few more in the early days when it was on the NXT asset exchange.

I really should've loaded up ridiculously when it got down to 30 satoshis but my mind was elsewhere.

No doubt there are other possibilities out there happening right now. Get in on the ground floor enough times and at least one'll pay off ludicrously.

And NEM is just getting fired up.

^^^ why those people above do follow what title says. hahaha. Saying hello wont give you money. Talking about NEM i do really see some potential on spiking up and there are really people would really hold up the coin no matter what cost they just want to make it sure that it will burst out and make decent money but this is not always the case because no one really knows what happen next.

I think i got around 20 btc from it and I remember thinking that 20k to me just a couple of years ago in savings seemed like a distant vague idea of a possibility if things went well one day.... and all along all i had to do was say hello.

Then again all i had to do to wave goodbye to another 100k was press the sell button a little too soon. Ha, oh well... still I'm grateful to nem and hope it can touch the billion mark.

I suppose its swings and round abouts, the people i sold to for 20btc maybe made another 20btc and they sold .....next time around i buy from them some other alt and make a few btc. Better we all make some and encourage more people to join in our fun crypto gambling/funding development game than just a few big winners and a lot of people who never want to play anymore and spread negativity .

I plan to hold most of my stake.. I may toss some on bittrex and trade it for some ARK... If ETH can sport a 6 billion market cap NEM will hit 700-800 million easy within a few weeks... With the potential to overtake ETH long term.. Waiting for kraken to add xem to their exchange... That will add fuel to the fire... The lack of exchange coverage acts to suppress xem demand to a degree.

The first stakes were free simply by expressing an interest on the thread. Then it moved on to small BTC amounts to secure one. I think I paid 0.045 BTC for mine.

Well I never knew about that so...

Nobody knows whether a coin will be successful until it is successful. Lisk once was above .01 BTC but crashed soon after its release. NEM could have been the same thing, it's a gamble either way.

But damn, I'm jealous, these people who held are pretty lucky bastards :-\

Meh... If it was trading on kraken and btc-e it would be above $1B by now.  The crypto bubble is hard to predict with such high trading volumes.  Only the exchanges know if this is new investment or a big margin induced rally like the dot com bubble in 1999-2000.   Margin calls are painful... Don't borrow cryptos.

NEM is much more attractive here than ETH is @ 9B market cap.  Maybe ETH could double but NEM could go up 6x or more in that same time... Of course there are other smaller altcoins which could go up 10-30x....assuming bubble doesn't burst at $50B total market cap.

I'm sure that there will be other opportunities like this on the forum, but I think that most people would have a hard time not selling if they see the value doubling or tripling.

unless you had multiple stakes in NEM which was against the rules you were allowed one, you got one million coins and that equals out to 71-72k idk where you get 200k from.

Hello, I had also some millionen XEM.

A stake is 2,250,000 XEM which is worth around $160k as of this post.  It never actually hit $200k this morning... It peaked around $185k for 5 minutes.

It's a stupid argument. Everyone is wise after the fact. I could of bought Bitcoin at $1 I could of bought dash two years ago for almost nothing, I could of got 50k of ripple for being a memeber here.


The biggest one by far was NXT which was for a year or so massive and was distributed to those who blindly trusted and sent BTC to an address. Many accused it of being a scam but the fact is if you sent even as little .5 of a BTC you could of made a million bucks plus.

A million bucks of paper profit. If I remember rightly nxt was only on one weird little exchange for a long time. Good luck pulling a million out of there.

Yep, and a pizza was once upon a time 10,000BTC.  And think about it, that wasn't even 10 years ago but it seems like an eternity.  So yeah, hodling is the way to go, it seems.  If I were you, I'd probably NOT reflect on how much you could've had.  That's the sort of thing that can drive a man bat shit crazy.

IMO it's still worth investing in NEM, they can only get more successful and they have super solid development. Oh, and actual implementation and a really solid PoI system. Definitely gonna invest more.

Really ​interested to read how nem coin developing until today, looks like the devs team did it so well and crypto market already recognize its advantages. Significant increases of nem within months, but I feel sorry that you lost one of your private key, $100K is a big deal obviously.

I've been doing my own digging. There's a guy on youtube with a channel called "Let's Invest" who went through the first 300-400 of the altcoins looking for anything unique but came to the conclusion that most are clones of other coins or don't bring anything new to the table, and that the market has done a good job with pricing the more promising coins with higher market caps.  I don't want to rely on one source of information but he no doubt has some useful information.

Stellar Lumens have been in a tear... tech looks promising. I'll dig into it more, but I'm not going to rotate into a coin with such a high market cap. Need to do some more digging. Looks like a Ripple Clone from a quick look.   Linking to this thread for the sake of discussion... congrats to the guy if he actually went and loaded up on it on May 1st.. he made a killing.

An interesting fact about XEM is how it's made the climb with relatively little volume compared to other coins.. look at the volume on Steller Lumens... XEM has yet to get even close to that in 24 hours.. I see that as a sign of a "sleeping giant" to be honest. Even now there's not much hype about it on this forum relative to many other coins.  I admit I am hyping it slightly, but trying to remain factual and give good information as well.

XEM has no mining and no inflation which probably accounts for its very different trading behaviour. There's also nowhere to play margin either. Its volume has gone from thousands last June back to 50-100 per day at various points.

An awful lot is being held back by the developers though I assume it'll bleed into the market eventually. Also people who run super nodes have to tie up 3,000,000 XEM which takes plenty off the market.

Lack of hype is one of the slightly mysterious things about it. Utter shite has garnered 10-20x more attention on here. It's been very stealthy so far. Much more appears to be happening in Asia with it rather than here.

I was wondering what the OP is talking about as i am new to the alt coin section as i never would have bothered looking into alt coins  because there are too many to even bother looking at it as anyone and everyone is coming up with an altcoin,but with the recent increase in price even i thought of looking into it,but how do you figure whether it is a good project because every ICO on being listed in a exchange is getting a good value,so i am a bit confused,is it always a good thing to invest during ICO or when they are listed in an exchange.

I suggest watching this video to see what this guy looks for.. it pretty closely matches what I look for. Good introduction into altcoins and why many of us think bitcoin will be replaced with a coin that has technology that addresses it's limitations.

His top 3 are doing very well, though DASH was already high back then as it went up in early March.   Look at where Stellar Lumens was trading when he made the video. haha.  It's interesting to watch because you can get a snapshot in time of where the cryptos were 2 months ago.

It's hard to class NEM as an ICO as it started off free and then became pretty nominal after that. I think they only raised something like 63 BTC in total.

I personally wouldn't be bothering with anything ICO related myself. They have too much inbuilt market weirdness from the offing.

Something that's already available that can be researched but isn't a huge deal at present is a more practical option. I really don't know how many worthwhile options there are like that with things the way they are in these bubbletastic times.  

i just realised that you could have nearly got 300btc for the free nem stake... so with todays btc price that's much greater than the thread initially said.
