Title: Now Accepting Bitcoins for SL Mainland Sales and Rentals!
Post by: indicasteve on June 18, 2011, 10:36:08 AM
Hi folks!  I would like to introduce myself!

I buy/sell and rent mainland in the 3D virtual world known as Second Life.  My avatar name is Steveo Mellow and my business is called 'Sand Bay Estates'.

For those who don't know, Second Life has it's own economy and currency, the Linden Dollar (L$).  The L$ is very stable and trades in the 260 L$ per USD range on several exchanges.

People can use L$ to buy land to build a house, or open a store or even build a virtual dance club complete with live DJs.  Some people use SL as a virtual playground while others build and run businesses for profit.

I would like to announce that I will accept BTC as payment for all my land rentals or sales fees.  There is an exchange at virwox.com where you can buy/sell L$ for BTC.  I will use the current exchange rates there for all transactions.  (The current exchange rate ~5000 L$ per BTC.)

If you need some extra L$ to go shopping, I can also do small exchanges at the current buy / sell rates as well.

If you get into Second Life, drop me an in-world IM!

Steveo Mellow

If anyone is interested in Second Life or has any questions about buying land in SL, please ask.

I am really interested in Bitcoin as a currency for virtual world transactions.

As of now, you can run your own virtual world using OpenSim.  Run your own 3D virtual world from your old server box.  But the problem has always been currency in such an open environment.  Bitcoin can solve this by allowing people to buy and sell goods with a secure currency that can not be manipulated by the hosting server.

In Second Life, the currency is the L$.  It is secure because Linden Labs owns the tens of thousands of servers and all the fiber that connects them.  But to make an 'open' 3d world, you also need an open currency...and this is where bitcoin can come into play.

Imagine a 3D world, that you can run from your computer, much like a webserver.  People can teleport from 'world to world' much like they flip through web pages now....and the currency...BTC.

Any ideas or anything with this virtual world stuff?  I'd love to answer anyone's questions...need to get my post count up anyway!
