Title: Multibit HD 0.5.1 - 'The password did not unlock the wallet' 100% correct
Post by: alchemist80 on April 29, 2017, 08:37:14 PM
Hi I have Multibit HD. I have 2 wallets, both with the exact same password. I have been using both wallets for a long time now. Wallet 1, I can access with no issues. Wallet 2, which I used only a day ago will now not let me log in. It gives the error 'The password did not unlock the wallet'.

I know this is not an incorrect password issue, has anyone heard of this happening before?

Almost every other post in this subforum is about people getting the "The Password did not unlock the wallet"...

If you can't just restore the wallet using your 12 word seed, then HI-TEC99 did a good job explaining how to recover your funds here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1733063.msg17341128#msg17341128)

Basically, it will allow you to find all your private keys for your receive AND change addresses derived from the 12 seed words for your MultibitHD wallet. You can then import all those private keys into another wallet.

At this point in time, I highly recommend that everyone avoid MultibitHD... this "password did not unlock the wallet" issue seems to be getting worse and worse.

This is happening alot with Multibit HD. I tried uninstalling the wallet then reinstalling but that didn't work. Since the wallet didn't ask me for a new password I just assumed the password was stored on the system.

I am running Win 10 so I ended up navigating to C:\Users\[your username goes here]\AppData\Roaming and deleting the Multibit HD folder. When I restarted Multibit HD it prompted me for a new password. I was back in after that. This has happened to me 3 times so far. Best use another wallet.
