up to a few days ago Transferwise had a great setup to transfer directly into Bitstamp with their SEPA transfer. you just paid direct debit to transferwise and they convert into Euros->Bitstamp. I'm not sure if it's still running at the moment but worth looking up.

As Achiron said, Transferwise accepts UK debit cards/ UK bank tranfers so you can transfer your money to to an exchange like Bitstamp. I've used them before and have had no problems so far.

More info here:  http://transferwise.com/support/credit-debit (http://transferwise.com/support/credit-debit)

You can get your first transfer free if you use this link:  http://transferwise.com/u/a41b (http://transferwise.com/u/a41b)

yeah it is a shame for all of us who enjoy spamming our transferwise affiliate links across the newbies section.

all the UK banks are forbidding transfers to bitcoin exchanges right now. your best bet is localbitcoins

or you can try using bitcoinfridge.co.uk - i had no reply from them, but others have good things to say

good luck and don't panic  ;)
