Title: Who all has received Jalapenos?
Post by: SgtSpike on April 27, 2013, 11:54:36 PM
As far as I know of:
- grnbrg, BFL Twitter news guru.  Not affiliated with BFL, just likes to talk about them a lot.  4.0 GH/s @ 26 watts
- Wired Magazine, haven't posted much of anything interesting about it
- Codinginmysleep - Not affiliated with BFL, just a reviewer/writer.  5.5 GH/s @ 30 watts.
- HD Solar - Customer, no report of wattage used.
- abigfish - Customer, no report of wattage used, 4 GH/s. (found to point to the same page as grnbrg's Jalapeno)
- BitPay - Payment processor for BFL's Bitcoin orders.  Running at 6.2 GH/s, no power report.
- Gigavps - Customer, 5GH/s, 30 watts
- cgminer team
- Dr.Haribo (BitMinter pool operator) - video (https://plus.google.com/u/0/107253423193517853418/posts/PQuAMcQnq6g)
- Scared - Customer - 5.6GH/s, no reports of power usage.  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=191058.0

Anyone else?  Report in if you received one, and especially report power usage if you have a way to find out!

Can't find anything about them receiving one, but I maybe was not looking in the right places.

So they exist after all

So the faggots who spend most of their days bashing BFL on this forum are suddenly quiet

I wouldn't know, I've had them on ignore for ages.

Oh, no, they're still talking.  Mostly going into tinfoil-hat areas of "well, the forum poster has a BFL sig, they must be working for them and making this up!"

We are not quiet, but like most BFL supporters you have know idea what you are talking about (in this case you just admitted you don't read the posts of people who are negative towards BFL and thus have no clue what they are talking about, yet you make claims that they are silent /boggle).

Everyone that I know has acknowledged that BFL has shipped 6 or 8 Jalapenos. The speculation now is focused on when they will ship the 3000+ Jalapenos ordered, when the redesign of the other units will see the light of day, and when those redesigned units might ship in bulk. Every day that BFL delays shipment is one less day their investors can hash before the 490,000+ Avalon chips hit the blockchain later this summer.

Gigahashes are the new Megahashes. Until BFL can ship enough product to affect the blockchain difficulty, Avalon is (sadly) the only game in town.

I assume you are referring to me. It seemed awfully suspicious to me. A customer (supposedly) gets a unit and then does a YouTube video of it being unwrapped. Like it was for show and also had a BFL sig. Now most regular customers aren't going to upload a video to YouTube. From the start of opening the box and showing it for display. That along with having a BFL sig. So there is some reason for skepticism. But sure get on the BFL bandwagon..

You're right.  Most people won't do an unboxing vid.  So that's why most of the (40+) people who have undoubtedly received a BFL unit hasn't posted a video about it.  And you think it is odd that 2-3 geek types have posted unboxing videos?  Come on, tech types do that all the time when receiving the latest and greatest tech products.  Just type "unboxing" on youtube.

It would be good to see some actual evidence that BFL can produce and ship in double digits.

well twelve is technically double digits. pretty awesome considering current investment in USD at around 4 mil. way way more if they held btc and sold anywhere near the correct times. for convenience sake, lets round it off to 12mil. that is a solid 5gh/1mil invested so far.

Sorry, I shouldn't have given a specific number.  Truthfully, I have no idea how many people have received them.  But I am sure that some of them are not reporting that they have received them.

My point still stands that geeks get overly excited about unboxing brand new tech toys, especially if they know they are one of the first to receive it.

Yes, that's what Josh said. But Josh has said a lot of things that turned out to be overoptimistic, misjudgements because of his ignorance, or blatant lies.

It's BitForce 5 GH/s SC, not Bitforce 5.

5 GH/s because it needs 5 times more power than estimated/guessed/prayed for by BFL. And SC like Scam.

Ya, I just knew they were lying again... If they really started shipping on April 1st, we'd have a lot more posts of people saying they received their ASICs. They did ship a few Jalapenos to developers/PR people/maybe a couple customers, but it seems they haven't shipped anything since then.

These guys are a bunch of crooks.. I was fully expecting them not to start shipping even after their email saying they are, and getting everyone to agree to their terms.

In all seriousness, they are most likely another 3-6 weeks out from mass production.

They actually didn't start shipping on April 1st, all the did then was release a youtube video of someone testing the ASIC board. They started shipping weeks after that,  but it seems to have stopped.

The big question is WHY did it stop?

I have been waiting for them to reach 400s unit a day (or at least 100) so I can go buy their products via a third party. I won't send em' any cash till they start fulfilling orders.

It amazes me how many people choose to troll BFL threads rather than contribute to the OP discussion about how many people have actually received BFL Jalapenos. I am trying to find out if they are still shipping or have stopped for some reason, I am not interested in pictures of chilli's or other silly pictures, and general defamation of BFL. I want to know if people are receiving product.

Seems to be that way. There certainly lacks serious discussion on the issues, and there is a lot of customer money at stake. ie. it's not a laughing matter, not time for trolling. BFL need to be encouraged to explain what's going on without the threads being instantly hijacked by the turbo posters on this forum.

Not many. Only ~35 units have been shipped out. Check their May 6th update. I'm guessing shipping is going to resume next week.

I am trying to find out if they are still shipping or have stopped for some reason, I am not interested in pictures of chilli's or other silly pictures, and general defamation of BFL. I want to know if people are receiving product.

Hey, genius, are you still torturing your brain?

Let me help you.

How many paying customers did post "Fuck yeah! I just got my Jalapono!!!" ? About 1.
How many paying customers did post "Fuck those BFL crooks" ? About lots.

The big question is WHY did it stop?

I have been waiting for them to reach 400s unit a day (or at least 100) so I can go buy their products via a third party. I won't send em' any cash till they start fulfilling orders.

Give the lady a break. She's soldering as fast as she can.

Nice!  And dang, at the same time, the power efficiency isn't enough for you to help me win my bet with Micon.  :(  Unless you manage to find a way to measure wattage at the jack instead of at the wall.

Basically, measuring anywhere after the power brick, so you aren't taking in to account the power brick's inefficiencies.  To do this, you'd have to either cut the wires and connect an in-line measurement device, or you could simply split the two wires from each other (keeping the insulation on them is just fine) and use a clamp meter around one of the wires to measure amperage, calculating total wattage from there.

Clamp meters don't require the wires to be separated out. An easier way than cutting wires would be to make a simple adapter out of a male and female power jack (whatever size the adapter uses). This way you could just plug it in, inline with the adapter, without actually having to alter the adapter itself at all.

They don't?  Is that because it's DC instead of AC?  I know on AC power, they do have to be separated out.

The wires have to be separated out, or their fields cancel and the clamp will read near zero regardless of AC or DC.

Easiest to do it withe the modular PCIe power connector that comes with it or make up a DC extender cable with individual wires.

Sorry, what I was saying there's a way to do it WITHOUT separating the wires of the adaptor; being that you can use a clamp meter without cutting into the wiring of the original adapter.  :-\

For the record, my Jalapeno did not come with a PCIe power connector.  I'm not going to modify my current power adapter, so I don't think I'll be able to help settle this bet.

You don't need to modify a thing, you go to an electronics part shop and buy a male and female version of the DC power connector and make up a short extension lead that you use for measurements.

No offense, but I don't care that much.  The electricity bill I pay is based on the power used by the power brick, so knowing how much power is being used on the other side of the power brick is only academically interesting to me.  Also, I don't have a clamp-style meter and don't want to go spend money on one just to answer this question.

What was your order date? 23th?

Although you could have gotten lucky in the "1/3 randomly to first month orders" quota too.

About 10-20 I'd guess to customers.

They're mostly shipping 0 per day, but did ship a few on saturday and maybe more on monday. Usually 0, because they don't have chips ready, and are getting more rarely and in small batches. :(

when did you order, what is your order #?    As far as running it, you should just have to plug it in via usb and run your miner.

Order no. was #1950 on June 23rd.

I'm hoping to run this off of Debian GNU/Linux 6.0.5 (squeeze) on a 12-year-old Powerbook G4 which runs silent and only consumes 15W. However I wonder if the the Powerbooks USB 1.0 or anything else about that setup is going to be problematic. I hope like you say it's plug & play but I would be surprised if this doesn't involve a fair amount of fiddling around.

Either way, is CGMiner the best choice of mining software?

Do you have a way to test power consumption on the unit once you get it mining?

1. Has anyone received a 7GH Model in hand yet?
2. How long does it take from when your order went from Processing -> Production, until it became "Fulfilled"
I have two orders for 7GH upgraded Jalapenos, they just changed to "Production" this week.

Germany has been pretty bad because they insist on a German instruction manual to be in the box, the rest of EU has been ok.
