Title: Re: I am here now Post by: Pzi4nk on April 28, 2013, 11:05:24 AM This is the natural result of a minimum post requirement.
Title: Re: I am here now Post by: Inedible on April 28, 2013, 11:10:47 AM This is the natural result of a minimum post requirement. Not really. There's a rule about useless posts too. Why join a community if all you're going to do is put in the absolute bare minimum? There should be a rule that has your post count reset if any of your first 5 posts are just junk to try and make up your first posts :/ I mean, are 5 posts really that much of an effort? Edit: Grammar Title: Re: I am here now Post by: Mccanical on April 28, 2013, 11:13:25 AM Hello
I've just been a longtime reader and am trying to get to 5 posts so I can contribute. Title: Re: I am here now Post by: Inedible on April 28, 2013, 03:03:52 PM Fair point. No offense intended, just an observation. No offence taken. It just seems a bit odd to me that people want to get their 5 posts in (don't forget you have to still be at least 4 hours old) so that they can do what? Post. The rule is there for a good reason. It prevents thousands upon thousands of repeat questions and it helps keep trolls out. IMHO, 5 posts and 4 hours is too short ;) Title: Re: I am here now Post by: alibert on April 28, 2013, 08:53:52 PM But how does the 4 hours countdown work? When I read on the forum it doesnt increment!!

Title: Re: I am here now Post by: bittick on April 29, 2013, 10:15:18 AM welcome. how do you find the restrictions on this forum?
i find it leads to spammy comments on random newbie threads. and is just delaying doing business with people Title: Re: I am here now Post by: Inedible on April 29, 2013, 10:23:46 AM welcome. how do you find the restrictions on this forum? i find it leads to spammy comments on random newbie threads. and is just delaying doing business with people If you have a better suggestion for how to keep trolls and spammers out, the forum mods would be very interested to hear. You'll find spammy people will always make spammy threads/posts. It's just their nature to not read and value their own time above others. Is this the right place where I can express my opinion about the five post rule? I mean, I needed an account to ask a question, but I'm just limited to this subforum. This s*cks :-[ Title: Re: I am here now Post by: garicup on April 29, 2013, 10:31:54 AM Hi.

So you'd be happy to wade through all the forums and sub forums looking for troll posts, issue warnings and then keep an eye on them until they make their next troll/spam post before banning them? Sounds like an awful lot of work for someone just so that a new member doesn't need to wait a few hours and make some sensible posts. It just postpones the hard work you described. Title: Re: I am here now Post by: Inedible on April 29, 2013, 10:44:53 AM But the current sollution doesn't make things better. It just postpones the hard work you described. You've not thought it through. This method makes the effort required to spam much, much harder. You need to waste 15-30 minutes of time for every 1 minute wasted of a moderators time. It's a balance between making it not worthwhile for trolls yet not inconveniencing newbies too much that they'll be discouraged from posting. Also, in 4 hours, most newbies have found the answer they're looking for by doing some reading. Look at all the posts where newbies go "Oh, I didn't see the thread which explains the rules and why they're there - thanks!". These controls were designed for those exact same people. "Where can I buy/get/make Bitcoins...?" "How do I escape from newbie prison?" "I've done 5 posts yet I still can't post in other parts of the forum..." etc. Title: Re: I am here now Post by: TrekMccloud on April 29, 2013, 11:01:46 AM The first post I read was the "Newbie Readme".
Answered everything. Now I can spend my time reading exactly what I'm looking for, other peoples' experiences/issues, and most of all, mining rigs. I have no qualms with the current setup. I've found everything I've been seeking in a matter of an hour. Title: Re: I am here now Post by: Mikko8 on April 29, 2013, 11:32:11 AM The first post I read was the "Newbie Readme".
