Title: Motherboard recommendation for multiple cards?
Post by: nightengale on April 28, 2013, 07:56:36 PM
Any recommendations on a good motherboard for running multiple video cards (with or without risers)? Of course looking minimize expense, but also looking for something stable and durable.

Thanks for any thoughts on this...

MSI FXA-GD65 (http://msi.com/product/mb/990FXA-GD65.html) - 6GPU (without any mods) and it's for like $100, also it has additional power plug for PCI-E so you don't need powered risers.

This is a good board, though you will not find it for $100, and if you are using 6 cards, you better use powered risers.

More good info, thank-you.

$125 at NewEgg, so not bad there.

I've googled a little bit for those powered riser cables. I've found some, but pretty obscure vendors. Do you guys know of a good source for those?

Thanks

keep in mind, most modern GPUs take up the space of 2 slots on the motherboard.  So you'll only be able to get half the number of video cards as there are PCI-X slots on the board.

You can buy regular risers without power cable and mod them with molex plug (if you need powered risers at all) there was a tutorial on the forum somewhere, it's really easy.
