Title: Any accounts of bitcoin in Japan?
Post by: Eebertay on May 04, 2017, 03:52:35 PM
Bitcoin and crypto currency is slowly starting to buzz in mainstream US news, it isnt big yet but i noticed a few publications focusing on it now.

Was wondering if there was anyone in japan that could give us some idea if the "bitcoin hype" is real? Also, if so have you purchased anything with bitcoin?

Really curious

What "bitcoin hype" bitcoin has been flourishing before Japan came into the scene. It just put bitcoin into another level when Japan rode the bitcoin evolution. Well you have a good question, I will asked my friends who are in Japan to see the clearer picture on what Japan looks like in terms of its craziness about bitcoin technology.

Are you kidding, the Bitcoin hype in Japan has been BUZZING! In fact, many are saying that activity from Japan is what's driving the current run up in price.

Definitely this is something I hope to find when I go to shoping. Unhappily in my country (Brazil) this will take a while to happen. I probably move to another country before I see something like that here.

Sounds like an exaggeration.  Bitcoin still represents a tiny, tiny amount of actual money in Japan and around the world.

Japan is quite a technology-centered country and Bitcoin is on its way, but it'll take a long time before real adoption is happening.

Japan is perfect at producing electronics, cars, and many other advanced technological products. Since Bitcoin is a revolution in financial technology I am no surprised that Japan is the country which is the most advanced in general real everyday use of bitcoin as a currency(i.e vending machines, atms in big malls). This can only be beneficial to bitcoin in the long term.

What is strange is that Japan has a pretty low number of full nodes - currently 81 full nodes in a country with a population of more than 120 million. See bitnodes.21.co (https://bitnodes.21.co/). France, for example, has only 50 million people but >450 full nodes.

So maybe the "bitcoin hype" is still only based on speculation there. But I would also like to hear the opinion of a Japanese forum member.

Just talked to a friend in Japan. He told me that most commoners still do not know bitcoin, and for those who know, most of them are still skeptical about it... If the price increase was really due to the demand in Japan, it would have been the big institutions buying and not really the mainstream yet.

but is it true that most of the stores there in japan already accepts btc? because i thought the country already accepts btc as mentioned here in the forum. its really not surprising to see btc price going up but so are the rest of the alts. i'd like to believe its because of japan.

japan always be the first nation who brave enough to make a breakthrough on technology and this time they go for bitcoin , not surprising at all , the only thing make surprised are the effect into bitcoin price globally going this far , and everybody cheering now!

i wish this great trend keep moving forward or at least the current situation can survive for long time enough.

This answers your query OP, japan is a big country and massive adoption coming from them helps the value to rise.
It's not hype without a reason, we can see it in the news..

i believe that site only shows "reachable" nodes. which means only full nodes that are accepting incoming connections from other nodes. otherwise this site can not find them.
and besides many nodes aren't ran 24/7. many people are running it on their PC and you can't just keep it running all day.

Well something is happening, because Japan has reported that they have received several new applications for Bitcoin exchanges. The only reasonable thing that would cause this, is if the use of Bitcoin has increased to necessitate a increase in Bitcoin exchanges.

I have also seen major retailers that has started accepting Bitcoin as a payment option. Japan is showing the world, what can be done, if the governments make the "good" decisions. ^smile^

Being far ahead of the US when it comes to Blockchain and Bitcoin adoption really isn't too insane, I don't think we've really adopted and all and we've done more along the lines of trying to regulate bitcoin rather than accept it. I do understand the governments reason for doing this, as they do want to control the currency within their own government, I don't agree in the least with what they're doing but what can ya do. Though, finding a store to use Bitcoin with in New York is probably going to be one of the craziest things to attempt to do and whenever I mention Bitcoin with friends they only really think of it as that Silk Road drug currency so yeah.

I don't think Japan is doing much, just a lot of hype to get more people to buy and further raise the price of BTC .

care to translate this for us? what is a "tall price"

from what i can see price in Japanese exchanges are all around $1550 to $1570 (~177,500 JPY ) which is nearly the same as price in USD markets such as coinbase and bitstamp.

Japan is the tech giant of Asia and it is adapting BTC and other cryptocurrencies in a manner of possible ways. It is a good thing for all the Bitcoiners.
But using BTC for the day to day use is quite complex than we think.

I talked to a friend living in Japan for several years now. She said that there are going crazy about bitcoin. A lot of stores started using bitcoin and owners are like in a friendly competition with each others in terms of gaining customers and of course bitcoin in their wallet. That's crazy. However, when I asked her if she is into bitcoin. she said she's into crypto but not bitcoin. I'm assuming she's into some shitcoin,  :)so I never asked although she said can she can convert it to bitcoin though  ;D. I asked her about the ATM, and she said that's she's getting an ATM card soon.

Bitcoin hype? Isn't it evident that's why they passed a Bitcoin law. They even have it installed in malls and they will soon overtake every country back in using Bitcoins. There is not much buzz in USA who says so? An etf was sent for approval but was rejected had that been approved that would have set usa no 1 users. You don't need to be in Japan to purchase with Bitcoins, you can purchase anything and everything. You can buy vouchers and buy your desired goods. Look in this forum also you can buy yourself goods using Bitcoins.

Yes, but that situation applies to the whole world. So if in Japan there are 81 full nodes and maybe 80 more full nodes that connect and disconnect some time every day, the same would be probably true for France - so there in addition to the 450 full nodes shown on the page there would be ~450 more nodes than this page says.

It could be interesting to observe if Japan's node count had grown significantly in the last months - maybe before the "good news" it was almost unknown there and is now beginning to get traction. But I didn't find historical information on that page.

Japan is really incredible developing in terms of crypto and digital currencies at the moment.
And it doesn't matter if people buy shitcoins. To get them they mostly have to buy some bitcoin and then convert it. And if they are in to make some money and see how much more volatile shitcoins are compared to Bitcoin, they will move some of their funds back to Bitcoin.
