The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Data_Protection_Regulation) will come in effect sometime on the 25th May 2018 for the EU. I'm specifically interested in the Article 17, Right to erasure (‘right to be forgotten’) (https://gdpr-info.eu/art-17-gdpr/). Considering that Bitcointalk offers no such option at all, and even stores a fair deal of information (including deleted posts/PMs AFAIK), I'm interested whether this will have an affect on the current setup of things. Do keep in mind that the forum being hosted outside of the EU is irrelevant, since this directly affects foreign companies/services.

It was my understanding the EU already had directives that introduced the "right to be forgotten".

Seems like this new legislation supersedes the current one, but I'm not sure what the differences are.

I know that you can issue takedowns to Google under the right to be forgotten if you are an EU citizen. Typically it applies to personal information. Does the new legislation allow for takedowns of other information?

Correct. However, the quick differences are:
1) That was only concerning search engines.
2) They only needed to remove you from EU search engines and not all of them.

Companies will be required to present the users with the option to completely delete any personally identifiable information. It is quite inconvenient that a fair number of sites do not have a 'delete account' option.

I intend to ignore all stupidity coming out of the EUSSR.

This is the first time that I've seen someone use that term. Although it would be nice to have a *delete* option of some sort, it isn't of high importance.
