Title: I think my account was hacked and somoeone took over it
Post by: whale123_temp on May 06, 2017, 04:25:24 PM
Hello, it seems my account was compromised, which is weird because I do not think my password was that easy and I never logged in public places.

Looks to me like someone hacked your account and sold it to another person.

The most common way for people to recover hacked accounts is to sign a message with a previously posted bitcoin address, but I couldn't find any other than one posted on March 17th (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=907271.msg18147923#msg18147923) of this year - that's after you noticed the account going rogue.

I'd say that messaging Cyrus (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=78147) with all 3 forms of proof is your best bet.

Good luck!

If your account was compromised and you can provide proofs of ownership like a signed message from a BTC address posted a months or years ago then follow the instructions according to the sticky above. If you don't have anything then say goodbye to your account. Recovering hacked account is easy as long as you have the required information ready.

OK, I have created signed Ethereum message and sent it to Cyrus as you advised. Thank you all!
You should also post that signed message here so DT users can tag your account with a negative.

I believe a signed message from a BTC address was advised.  I'm not so sure ETH sig will be accepted.

I understand that there is some competition between various altcoins and BTC but technically speaking it is same cryptographic proof and it would be quite not cool to see someone still using the hacked account just because the proof is on alt blockchain and not BTC. Unfortunatelly ETH address is the only one that I have used in my posts.

It's not about competition; it's about time.  There are a thousand altcoins.
Here's the thread about signed messages:

He's deleted all posts in this thread except for the very first one, and it looks like the original account (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=256026) has had quite a few posts deleted (only one post is from March 2017). Does this mean that you've gotten the account recovered?

Do you have any thread which has your btc address in it? even if the hacker deleted your threads, you can try www.bitcointa.lk, just a heads up the google chrome gives me a warning when i visit it, so be careful, they do have a Log of every thread. This may help you. You can prove the account ownership by signing the address which was used in any original thread.
