Title: The founder of Wikipedia asks for donations in bitcoin to start a new project
Post by: Marcus_2017 on May 06, 2017, 05:37:58 PM
"I remember your incredible generosity to Wikipedia, when we think about how to accept donations in bitcoin. My new project Wikitribune will use a monthly subscription model that opens access to information, but I also want to appeal directly for support to the bitcoin community," wrote Jimmy Wales.

Interesting news. Articles on Wikitribune will by based on facts to avoid fake news. I think this is what we need. If they will be really independent and write only facts based content - then Wikitribune will be really interesting and worth for subscription. But I don't like one thing - some countries like Russia or Turkey already trying to censor Wikipedia, and I think they will also may try to fight against Wikitribune
I remember that Wikipedia started to accept bitcoins as donations long time ago but I'm not sure that many people donate bitcoins. On their page of all possible donation methods, bitcoins are almost on the bottom.

If the Russians want to know the truth there could be no censorship. The trouble with Russians is that they don't want to know the truth. They are satisfied with the lies they constantly hear from Putin's media. For them it's like a dream where all is well and they don't want to Wake up.

Why don't this beggar stops begging? When Wikipedia was in its infancy, a lot of the contributors worked tirelessly to add content. But once it got established, this guy banned most of the old users and converted Wikipedia to his own propaganda machine.

How about wikicoin? Coin of wisdom and knowledge. Sadly, It will never be as famous as ethereum because m-etheads are greedy basturds who don't care about technology or knowledge. >:(

That's why wiki dude won't collect any donations. Because he doesn't trick you with lies. All he wants is donations. You would be buying truckloads of his shit if he were offering you a highly flammable shitcoin with the promises of making you rich.

Why do you think everything on the internet should be available for free? This guy asks for a contribution for all of his work? How is this begging?

It looks like you're begging for his services to be free, not the other way around..

I think he meant that the contributors should not have been silenced, kind of like how citing the dailymail is a taboo at wiki.
So the question becomes what is an approved source and what is propaganda and if the news is false do you want to subscribe to a filtered service.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-4449896/What-Wiki-Hypocrite.html The daily mail was not one to take that sitting down XD

----
What a Wiki Hypocrite: Wikipedia's boss is crusading against 'fake news' and media manipulation. Yet he altered his own online entry...to delete his pornographic past.

Back in the Nineties, Wales launched a dotcom firm called Bomis, which profited from ventures such as 'Bomis Babes', a search engine that let users trawl the internet for vulgar photos, and 'Nekkid', a website with degrading images of nude women.

Project Wikipedia it. The fact that the authors worked that doesn't give them the right to become owners. They knew the conditions for publication. Though of course the use of such resources should be paid. Then authors would get their fees.

weren't LUNYR just finished their ICO and its somewhat like a wiki and encyclopedia project? the token seem to have a good price actually i was just not interested to it. i hate such project such as steem, all these should have left to those in the adsense webmasters and let them compete themselves.

so are we to expect ICO for Wikitribune?

How could such value rise? Since wiki's like Wikipedia don't earn money based on user payments.

ha ha ha ha

I doubt anyone would support him

Why don't this beggar stops begging?

Will stop when he has enough money to use to wipe his ass

This guy reminds me of my country's politicians.

wikipedia has been a great source of information and knowledge. If have enough bitcoin I will willing donate to this project called wikitribune as this might bring out a lot of hiding news and information that have been keep secrets by evil media houses.
