Buy bitcoin, sell all the others.  That's my advice, and it'll be the same advice 5 years from now, when your list is populated with shitcoins-du-jour having different names.  They're all shitty and they all should be sold to buy bitcoin.

I don't understand how you can say what you did. I preface this by saying I'm a newb just wanting to have constructive conversation and educate myself on the facts. Is the underlying tech of some of the altcoins not much better than bitcoin (litecoin as an example)? Only reason bitcoin is stronger right now is brand name/network effect or is that not correct?

what time scale are you thinking?

there are too damn many to comment on.

long term ish i think single purpose coins like factom will disappear. there are coins now that can do what that does and far more besides.

You have too large list.

Choose no more than 2 alts from list.

My choice from your list:

1.Litecoin - buy
2.ETC - buy

This is an easy question. Ask yourself, do you think Bitcoin will rise in the future? If the answer is yes, by all the coins said evenly, and never invest too much into 1 coin it will almost always burn you. If the answer is no, sell all coins listed. That is crypto for the past 5 years.

<insert name> = SELL

No joke.. I'd advise that for even LTC & BTC.

There may be more up swings in the future but time is money..

Why choose ETC instead of ETH?
Only because of the low cost?

Buy all of them. Ask your parents for a loan and get in. You will be rich!  :P

that is where you are wrong.
bitcoin is stronger because it was not created for pump and dump purposes. it was created with the goal of being a cryptocurrency and that goal is what's keeping the price on the rise. in other words it is because of the real adoption of bitcoin as a currency (for example look at Japan) that the demand for bitcoin is rising.
being an speculation tool and people investing in it is also there, but not the main thing.

this is not true about any of the altcoins out there. when they were being created the only thing that their developer was thinking was money. and if it wasn't that, the coin is already dead because good projects will always go unnoticed in this pump and dump market.

as for your list i say buy
bitcoin
litecoin
monero
PIVX

watch
ETC
Golem
Steem

sell
the rest.

oh and just FYI, bitcoin was NOT the first cryptocurrency.... BAM!
there were smaller and failed projects then bitcoin came.

I'd sell most of them, they're in bubble territory. Look at their charts - if they've risen by more than 10% in the last 24 hours, you can bet they're about to do a big fat dump.

My opinion and could be very wrong. But at one point if gov's don't muscle in a ruin our party.

all will continue to increase whilst everyone wakes up to crypto.

at first the larger cap coins will get the lions share

later good lower cap coins will explode.

all trading history of alts can be forgotten if this is a genuine big wave of new investors.... this is not not looking like the cyclical whale pumps that go from coin to coin.

hopefully this is a sign of the crypto awakening but i'm yet to meet many people who are familiar with bitcoin let alone alt coins so we have some time yet before we get saturated

if bitcoin sorts out its scaling issues then alts could be in for a temp red candle before rocketing off again.

Bitcoin - Hold (The best investment ever, why would you sell?!)
Ethereum - Buy
Ripple - Hold (If you can't buy more – it will be worth more in the near future)
Litecoin - Sell (Why the hell would you buy a hard pumped coin 'from 0.003BTC to 0.019BTC!')
NEM -Buy
Dash - Hold
Ethereum Classic - Neutral
Monero - Buy (It's a big buy!)
Golem - Sell
Augur - Sell
Dogecoin - Hold
MaidSafeCoin - Buy while it's still cheap
Steem - Neutral
Zcash - Hold
Factom - Sell
Decred - Buy (Potential pump in the near future)
PIVX - Buy

I just modified your list to suit the current values at the markets.

I think Steem is a good Buy. It has been going up and I think it will reach a minimum of 1 dollar this month. I think this is going to happen in the next coming weeks (if not days).

Just to be clear how do you justify that comment on LTC but put a buy next to NEM and not put that comment next to almost 50 of the others.
I am a big fan of NEM although I am NEMless now but it is looking like a hold at best at this stage buying in after the last week looks risky.

Just so that I understand your reasoning here. If pushed I would agree with you on some of those.

The average block time of the 2.5 min of ltc against 10 min in btc does not make it a better crypto currency but the imminent segwit adoption yes. If ltc was better than btc its price would be raised some years ago and not last month. Except that, my advice is keep your btc buy ltc due to segwit and monero due to its features concerning the privacy.

BTC - Buy. Looks like that we will have a continuous rise in price over this year. Of course, it will go down sometimes, but the trend is going to be upward.
ETH - Neutral. I really don't know if ETH has more room to grow because of its inflation rate (munber of new coins deployed in the market every day). To it value continues to grow, it's necessary a massive inflow of new money.

Nothing should be a serious buy at this point as they're all in a bubble and they're all going to pop "soonish". Keeping your exposure limited is the key to the game right now.

segwit adoption won't bring dramatic advantages. Segwit isn't worth a pump. It's overhyped. There are alts which already adopted it (i think syscoin?). Market didn't care because segwit in a coin with empty blocks makes absolutely no sense.
Segwit in LTC for the sake of segwit will not raise the price imo. Market is irrational but not that dumb.
