Title: why coinmarketcap info is different than exchanger's ?
Post by: dossantosleite on May 08, 2017, 02:34:52 PM
For example, one altcoin on coinmarketcap shows 1000% price increase, but on yobit it shows 500% ?

That's because yobit is very delay on coinmarketcap. Coinmarketcap is the real price. There are many yobit users accusing yobit as a scam trading site and I tried and tested also. I don't know why it is happen.

Coinmarketcap just calculate and provides average of all prices from exchange sites. If you look under the market tab, the prices of the coin on each exchange is of course different. But its almost close to each other though. Most of the time bitfinex price is better.

because coinmarketcap anytime uptodate
and price compare last 24 hour, and every minute , every hour in coinmarketcapt always update and compare with 24 hour price
is diference maybe only update price is not same time, this mean in yobit delay

You are not seeing live feeds from the exchanges and so is the reason you are seeing some sort of difference in price in the exchange and Yobit does have coins which will pump really high one second and dump the other second and so you might have seen a coin that was pumped and dumped, when coinmarketcap captured the price might be 1000% increase and when you visited the coin took a dump.

Coinmarketcap are aggregating prices from all exchanges every few minutes.
In my observations, yobit are updating increase/decrease percentages every few hours. And youbit are only for youbit :)

IMO trading decisions are better to be make over Coinmarketcap feed and then find a suitable exchange for your course of action.

yobit, coindeck price index and others exchangers always have delay in bitcoin and altcoins price update and because of this many traders especially arbitrage traders take advantage of this delay and make huge profit. Coinmarketcap price index is more reliable.

it can have different reasons. you need to be more specific.

but the reasons are usually these:
- the exchange you are checking (ie yobit) is behind the market. for example since nobody is trading there, price is still at previous amount.
- the % rise is the 24 hour rise. so depending on what you call 24 hour, the result will be different. for example if now is 10 AM, last 24 hour can be from 10 AM yesterday to 10 AM today. or it can be 24 (12 PM) yesterday to 24 (12 PM) yesterday. and that will give you 2 different % rises.

So okay. If I see on coinmarketcap that some particular coin price is for example 0.01USD, but on yobit it's 0.005USD. So if yobit stats are delayed, it means that later on yobit same coin price will be 0.01USD ? :D it's like seeing future? :D

in theory, that should be how it works.
when price of something rises in another place, it also rises in other places too. or the same for falling price.

but in practice, sometimes these altcoins are not being traded in some small exchanges. and you should look at buy price and sell price.

for example if price of a coin is 0.01 USD in big exchanges, in yobit price may be like this:
buy @0.016
sell @0.005
and coinmarketcap lists the last price, meaning if last action on yobit was a buy then coinmarketcap will list price as 0.016 USD and if it was a sell then they list price as 0.005 USD so the percentage is also going to be different.

Another thing it does wrong IMO is if you buy 10 bitcoins worth of ... trumpcoin (lol. Like anyone would do that) for 0.001 each, then sell 10k Satoshis worth of trump coin for 0.00001 each you'll see the price as 0.0001 each (because you'll be the only one doing anything in the trump coin market that day hahaha).

Probably because all exchanger markets has different traffic although the difference is not too far away and the average yobit has many shitcoin, I think exchangers that have a lot of traffic have more accurate info.
