Title: Security gap at Bitstamp.net!! update: logs proof there's an issue
Post by: Toptopsop on April 29, 2013, 01:40:47 PM
Has anyone news about any security issues at bitstamp? I've used them a few times and had no probs at all. What about those rumors 2 ppl can log on to accounts concurrently?

BEWARE OF USING THEM!!

I have proof that they got a major problem with their security - I can provide all logs of my account at Bitstamp.net. More than 8 BTC gone  :'(

Im willing to bet you did not use a second factor authenticator and fell wictim to a keylogger.

Nope, everything clean on my side - no viruses, trojan horses or whatever.

You are right though that two-way-authentication wasn't enabled, but there wasn't even time to activate it! My BTC were gone within less than 1 hour after opening the account.
All that happened WHILE I was logged on to the account the very first time and although I had changed the PW only 2 Minutes after logging in - so I'm saying: WTF!?

Hope they will make good for your damage.

Actually I thought they were pretty good, I like their website-design lol

Who cares about design? It's got to be secured - I don't care about the looks of my tax accountant either, he's got to do what I pay him for. Not more, not less.

yes it does

account -> settings -> two part auth

two-way-authentification just doesn't help if a hacker is virtually looking over your shoulder and you don't even realize it as he's logged onto your account together with you simultaneously

only possible at bitstamp.net! thanks again for nothing you bitstamp-bunglers!

I'm going to pass this case to the local authorities in Slovakia or where ever those scammers are, anyways.

Two factor authentication does help with a key-logger though, which is a much more likely threat than an attacker virtually looking over your shoulder.  I've used bitstamp a few times to buy coins, and it's all worked smoothly except that on your trade window, they seem to provide out of date information, so it can look as though your bid is for more money than the the best offer but is not activated.  For what it's worth, I think they're inSlovenia rather than Slovakia. [Edit] There's no evidence they're scammers.

If they are no scammers, they still are bunglers. On a side note: They said they would investigate the case - if there wasn't a security gap then what would they investigate?
