Title: South Korea election: Moon Jae-in claims victory
Post by: Kemarit on May 09, 2017, 03:40:55 PM
South Korean's today elected a new President Moon Jae-in. And it looks like he is opened to negotiate with their North Korean brothers. It looks like this will shake up the political landscape in the region. I haven't read or seen any reaction from the official news agency from North Korean though regarding the result of the elections.

"Moon is expected to overhaul Seoul's policy on North Korea, looking to open talks with Pyongyang and challenge the deployment of a controversial US missile defense system. Such a position stands in stark contrast to the hard-line conservative policy of former President Park."

God is great! This is excellent news, and a severe blow for the American warmongers. Moon Jae-in is opposed to provoking the DPRK and its leader Kim Jong Un. He is likely to pursue a conciliatory approach with the northern neighbor.

It will be interesting whether he will move to reopen the Kaesong industrial complex and if the north will see this as a provocation.

The North will be happy if he reopens the Kaesong industrial complex. After all, Kim was getting valuable foreign currency from there. But opening it will be very difficult, given the current political climate.

And I think he makes a mistake. Trump will not tolerate the fact that Kim is trying to develop missiles of distant radius of action. In any case he will hit Kim. The only difference is that if the Americans removed their missile defense system South Korea will remain vulnerable. Who would call Moon Jae-in smart?
