Title: Can someone help me reach the minimum threshold at a pool?
Post by: Mikko8 on April 29, 2013, 05:29:18 PM
Can someone help me reach the minimum threshold at Slush's pool? I've mined just 0.0026 BTC and it has taken weeks. Help would be appriciated, and I would send you your fair share for the work.

It doesn't seem like you have the hardware for profitable mining.

That is why I am asking. I am mining on ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5xxx series GPU.

So rather than mining on your own you just want others to give you bitcoins?

As I said I would transfer the actual miner their fair share for the work.

EDIT: Also, I have no plans to continue mining after I receive the payment from the pool, so this would be a one time deal.

You might want to consider what you are asking of people to help you recoup what amounts to (at current exchange rates) 37 cents.  Chalk it up to some lessons learned and insight gained and leave it on the table.

While I fully understand that I am probably looking for some fast miners' help and that they are probably the least interested in this, I am also aware that the work done (mined) is quite meaningless. Anyway, as a newbie and an enthusiast it was worth asking.

0.01 BTC

Be aware that when you send 0.0074 to the miner that helped you, since the output is less than 0.01 BTC, the bitcoin network will require you to pay a 0.0005 fee.  This leaves you with 0.0021.

I know, tough life, I guess :D I have some scrap BTC from µBTC sites to help fund the cost. But at least I've got some BTC, learned the lesson and stopped watching the ads.

I'm also not able to purchase some BTC because PayPal is not considered safe and SEPA transfers cost just under 6 EUR in my country.

Be careful.  Depending on how much scrap you have and how small the value is of each scrap output, you could find that they significantly increase the size of the transaction to the point where you are paying a "per kilobyte" fee.  At that point, the transaction could end up costing you more than 0.0026 meaning you might not have enough available to cover to cost to send the miner their "fair share".

I am aware of the "per kilobyte fee" but it seems rather a suggestion, at least at this stage. I've seen transactions in tens of kilobytes with just a 0.0005 BTC fee added going through and confirmed, and, after all, free transactions also exist. Bitcoin project is still in its rise and at this point I don't think miners should complain about not receiving the "suggested" fee as they are raking most of their revenue from block creation and not from transaction confirmation fees. Later, as the Bitcoin project ages, the topic on the fee amounts probably will become more and more significant.
