usually when some big news like this is around in the altcoin market, prices rise before the news actually come to pass (meaning before SegWit even activates!) then price enters a bubble, and this two have already happened. price has gone up from 0.003BTC up to 0.022BTC and that is a 633% rise!

and again usually prices get dumped hard when the news actually comes to pass. meaning when SegWit activates as whales dump to create some panic sells and take more profit when they buy at the bottom.

so lets hear your short term predictions here.

do you think Litecoin is going to be any different in short term (the following 24 hours)?

usually i don't check what the orderbook chart shows, but i have to be honest, i don't like what it is showing right now.

i've placed a buy order at 0.0179BTC before i open bitcointalk half an hour ago and by then there was about 100BTC sum of orders in front of me. then i saw this topic and went to check again what is happening, now there is only 35BTC sum of total orders in front of me!
of course not all of it is dump, many removed their buy orders and looks like Bids are getting thinner.

The thing to watch is the following transactions chart:

There were 16,713 litecoin transactions in the last 24 hours, which is up from recent months, but still below the all time highs of about 20,000 per day in 2014.

If after segwit is activated, the transactions fail to soar, it means no-one is using it, and litcoin will fall back to earth.

Ive got a few ltc just in case anything crazy happens but the only thing i really expect to happen is a massive dump =p. It will be interesting to see how segwit will work with litecoin though, maybe if all goes well then bitcoin will adopt it as well.

Since it's actually what comes after segwit that's important including the Lightning Network and Confidential transactions the price will continue to rise. The exception being the complete collapse of the cryptocurrency markets including BTC.

Additionally, todays news that the Chinese exchanges will re-enable withdrawals in June will put additional strength into LTC markets (and BTC).  The current boom has been based in the west with prices lagging significantly on chinese exchanges. This is about to change.

its really between supporters and fuders game now as we seen the rise im not sure if buying it while waiting for the updates to come is still
beneficial or its really fomo's moves, we need to assess it deeper to make sure that we are going to gain some profits while the train still

Those will sell the news. I mean we are near dump of litecoin. So, the speculators will be able to seeing the usefulnes of segwit for the community. If that really helped for the community and FOMO litecoin will be happen in the future. Just the matter of time.  8)

Maybe, maybe not, we had already 2 drops in 2 days.

My guess, like previous drop on 15$ it will go much higher this month.

if it does will bounce higher later on.

if it drops can be useful to collect a few more that's about it.

That's a very big call. I personally can't see it happening, it has a small community and no-one uses the coin.

I think it will moon to $50 and then retrace to 30 before stabilizing at 35 for some couple of months.

We own around ten LITECOINS that's all but it is better than nothing I guess. I will try in the near future to purchase a couple more if all goes well when I get paid my wages at the end of the month if it isn't too expensive that is by then.

The Segregated Witness soft-fork (segwit) includes a wide range of features, many of which are highly technical.
Cool to see this at LTC but its way overvalued for the ongoing price rise.

I think as long as btc isn't getting LN ltc will gain more market cap long term because it's actually being developed and improving. ltc might get a correction but long term I think it's gold if btc can't get out of the miner centralization mess. Transactions being stuck on mempool and high fees make me not use bitcoin anymore. I'm still holding bitcoin and waiting for it to improve though. If bitcoin can upgrade then btc > ltc easy.

i think it will not drop, the hype for segwit is still very strong, there will be some correction this is normal, but the price will climb again and reach all new height, also litecoin in the past was very near this level or higher, reach 0.05 but the value of bitcoin was lower due to less investors, now it's the same more investors more money, and the same value will be reached

I am just wondering that on polo prices of sell orders are lower than buy orders.

need to observed before placing an entry if you are not an holder yet we can't say the price because for sure fluctuation will happen the only thing is
we are really unsure if things will fall in our side or go the other way i still see some green from polo so keep checking if what segwit brings to its

Bitcoin is getting too expensive for many things. So Litecoin is the perfect little brother and will gather the micro area.

First instant transactions

i suspect a drop but the opposite tends to happen when I voice my opinion on these things lol, short term down long term if segwit works well the sky.

if ever there was a buy the rumor sell the news this is it, but maybe that was the pre activation phase.

i think long term the only way is up. check the testing happening now. it's seriously impressive. merchant processors would be crazy to ignore litecoin when it has these capabilities.

if most of the places i spend started to accept it i'd drop bitcoin instantly.

and if bitcoin implemented it i'd drop litecoin instantly.

I am expecting it to go up. Placed sell orders between 0.03-0.04 BTC. Waiting for China to wake up and see their reaction to Segwit activation. I won't be surprised either if it dump to .013 BTC later tonight.

Given the relevance of the activation of Segwit in Litecoin and the importance it will have in the bitcoin scalability debate, Is it possible that someone has been creating a huge bag of Litecoin to sell them now and throw prices down the floors and thus proclaim the alleged failure of Segwit?

my opinion there can be some frustration those days or weeks , but general trend should be up and only .
with near instant transaction litecoin will get more investor and more use , what is the point of paying high BTC fees and waiting hours for some coins to arrive ,
more after SegWit activation there is more to come  ;D

LN network first implementations are to be released in a month or so I guess, in-house testing is already underway for some time.

I believe what will make LTC price get higher is real life usage as in LN with low fees and rapid transactions.

Segwit is actually not really for LTC but BTC. Of course LTC benefited form it already but it will help BTC much more.

I believe LTC is not going anywhere and will raise.

Pre/Around Segwit the spike was up to 37 USD. Now it is lingering around 29-33 USD with fast up and downs.

I am watching polo since yesterday and saw many panic sells and panic buys.

I hope 30 USD+ will be its new base, though I will be in a little  (virtual) loss in my table with this price as I cashed out some profits and raised my buy base price but I can wait for it.

LN expectations, first usage and hopefully its adoption in the market will make LTC around 40 at first.

50 USD of more? I do not know yet.  Some even expects 75 USD for the end of this year.

I think it depends on LN activation and some financial bodies start to use it.

yes i agree that Chikun is rising to the moon after SegWit activation and all the other features coming to it. i was talking about what could happen yesterday, and i was right. (more like day trading)

i hope others made profit as i did. i made a quick 2x 5% profit after i made this post from the dips yesterday.
placed some orders around 0.013BTC up to 0.016BTC and half of them are filled now. back to the long term now but just because i don't know if the dumping will continue or not, specially with the good news about Chinese exchanges opening again.

unlikely to drop. The prices will go to 45usd then it will pull back to around 30+ usd.

It appears the first transaction on litecoin mainnet using LN has already been done. So other than some ongoing hype about this stuff, I don't see any solid reason why the price should keep going up much more. Course it would be in some peoples best interest to drag this out to drive the price up so we'll have to see how it plays out.

it went down from 0.02219BTC to 0.015BTC yesterday and that is a -32% drop.

and no i am not interested in USD value since i am only trading on bittrex and with bitcoin and that profit is important to me because it is earning more of something that will also rise not earning more of fiat that is same price s ever.

The price has dropped a lot in the last two days. However, I believe it will go up soon and probably break the ATH (back in 2013) within a few months.
