I haven't used any hardware wallet till now but trezor is the one many trust. However i still trust my paper wallet to hold my bitcoins.

To hold multiple alts in same wallet, i am using jaxx wallet. Just store your recovery seed in secure place, you can use their mobile or desktop wallet for both short term and long term storage.

You can make paper wallet from myetherwallet to hold your ethereum for long term.

Trezor and Ledger Nano S are the most well reviewed and trusted hardware wallets. If you plan to carry your wallet around with you the Ledger Nano S is pretty tough. Here is a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJJ4SAkTic8) of a Ledger Nano S being run over and still works.

I've been using Trezor since November 2016, I made a nice soft case so I can carry it everywhere (it's plastic so it's not ideal to carry it without a case of some sort) and created a bunch of wallets in it without an issue. I think it's ideal both for storing big amounts of coins (since you have the seed and you can easily get back your coins even if they steal it from you) and for spending daily. You can adjust the fees, create several addresses at the same time and even name your wallets.

I bought 2 ledger Nano S model hardware wallet, one was for me and the other for my friend. Both of us have been using it for 3 months and I can say that it's a good hardware to get one. I also wonder Trezor.

I gravitated to Trezor because it allows me to have "unlimited" hidden wallets without having to reset or use different SEED to do so.  I especially like the idea of having a decoy wallet with a few BTC on it in case I am ever forced to disclose/open a wallet.  There is NO indication any hidden wallets exist.  Plus it works flawlessly!

Does this ledger or nano wallet has a mobile version? Because i really am always on the go and currently my bitcoins were saved on a exchanger site which is really not good in ny opinion.

I'm relatively new to BTC and i like the Exodus wallet a lot because it has simple buttons and functions. It will hold REP, BTC, Dash, Doge, GNT, and LTC and they are soon to add DCR. With a few clicks you can trade any of these on ShapeShift right within the wallet. There's fees for trading, but that's okay for myself because I don't have the time or patience to do it otherwise.   

If you use an Android phone you can use Mycelium wallet. The Nano S connects to your phone with a short OTG cable and signs bitcoin transactions.

To me it is still the good old paper wallet + BIP0038. I can make many copies and keep them safe at a number of locations.

Trezor is definitely the best and I'm not sure if there are any truly comparable alternatives for what you're looking to do if security is a priority.

I will still choose trezor over those new hardware wallets because trezor already build a good reputation to the bitcoin users from different part of the country so it is enough for me to trust trezor over the rest of the hardware wallets and most of the big companies also is partnered or using trezor so it is safer for me.

Either a Trezor or Ledger Nano S will serve you well. If you like to carry your hardware wallet with you the Nano S will fit on a keyring and is proven tough. It takes two hands to push the buttons on a Nano S while you can use a Trezor with one hand. Personal preference I have and use both.

You can choose ledger wallet . The Ledger Wallet Nano is a relatively affordable bitcoin hardware wallet with high security

I don't have hardware wallets and i think hardware wallets are just same with paper wallet because you are storing your bitcoins there and either of two is safe for you to save bitcoins because they are very hard to hack by the hacker because in paper wallet it is offline so there is no chance to worry about getting hacked which is the safest wallet that i've got.

Ledgers, TREZORs etc tend to be compatible with phones as long as your phone has USB on the go.  You'd just need to take your TREZOR/Ledger and a USB cable when you intend to go out and spend.  They're pretty small so it shouldn't be a problem.

With BTC price is go up every day I was thinking that would be smart to invest in hardware wallet and secure my coins in the best possible way.From what I saw hardware wallets do not support importing of private keys or there is a way to do that?

Price for Trezor is now something around 0.06 BTC including sending,only thing which can increase total price is tax,from where is package sends?

I like Case wallet. Next to that old style paper wallets work just fine.  Or go on the cheap and use multiple NANO's.

The hardware wallets can be restored if they are lost or stolen, and paper wallets can't be restored.

As many of you I use Trezor wallet. In the most beginning I used only online wallet, but since my bitcoin earnings became bigger I decided to use hardware wallet to feel safe about my money. The same as you are I just asked on the forum and many users suggested Trezor.

Yeah agree trezor is one of the hardware wallet that I use in the pass years no prolem encounter so far and still good but i would say try the other hardware wallet like ledger they are one of the best wallets.

If you want to hold bitcoin in desktop wallet then you can go with electrum, but if you want to hold altcoin also then i dont know about it as i keep altcoins in their respective wallets, so that if they are in POS i can stake and earn them.

Seems everybody loves Trezor. I understand why. Case is very expensive but it does have the most features like biometric fingerprint scan.

You don’ specify what do you mean by best, do you mean the most secure? Do you mean the cheapest? Do you mean the easiest to use?

Nowadays, there are so many bitcoin wallets on the market, and all of them are free, you do not have to give up any money to own it. In my opinion, electrum is one of the best wallets, it is more user-friendly and has more rational features.

I see the problem here is that i have no idea about nano S and i think i will be having a hardtime in finding that one since bitcoin accessories are not that available in my place

Do not even think of buying a Case. They have not updated the firmware in a year and the fees used when sending bitcoin are too low. It was an interesting idea but they seem to have ceased development sorry to report. Stick with Trezor or Ledger Nano S.

After a lot of readings and youtube videos, I decided to get myself a trezor.

I love my trezor
The multiple wallets makes it easy to only show how much I want
This makes it great for not letting the wife know the true amount of coins I have (just in case hehehe)
but its also great for in person trades. We can agree on the amount before hand, say 2.5 btc, I load that amount into a newly created wallet, meet up, load up that wallet and again no one knows my true holdings.

Trezor very solid and good for me  ;D

To be clear, he is asking for the best "Hardware Wallet" and not the overall wallet because they are so different to each other. Web wallet is very different to desktop wallet, paper wallets and also for hardware wallets. The best hardware wallet that i know is trezor also because of its year that been tested by a lot of bitcoin users so i will not have any doubt for trezor to be the best.

Perhaps I won't ever understand why people would want to make money then put it inside a hardware wallet that they did not build themselves.
It's like people just like to lose a bunch of money or they just don't care for their future. There should be a do it yourself hardware wallet tutorial that would be cheap and just as efficient as Trezor.

Indeed, Trezor is 100% opensource and there are some information on the internet about DIY it with a raspberry pi for example.

However, take myself as an example, I had a cold storage before but finally decide to give Trezor a try - I simply don't have time to mess up with these projects and don't want to risk my coins. Better leave it to the specialists and pay the money.

I don't like Bitcoin hardware wallets because I don't know who made them. I know that most companies will label their Bitcoin hardware wallets yet the people that purchase them don't really do the researching behind the companies and the developers that built the hardware wallets.

I just like to use a downloadable Bitcoin client because it costs less as well.

Almost no one has the ability to clone a Trezor. If you don't like hardware wallets you can do cold storage the way that was available before Trezor was introduced. Using Armory on top of Bitcoin Core with a two computer setup, the private keys kept on the offline computer. Almost everyone left that cumbersome method behind once Trezor came along.

I am looking for a more secure and can I take easily if there is the latest version of nano wallet, I want to save my bitcoin safely.

Does anyone knows if there's any alternatives to CryptoSteel (other than DIY) out in the market?

I'd be interested in this also as the "AnyKey" version always seems to be on backorder each time I want to purchase one.

Trezor or Ledger nano S, both have pros/cons but my personal choice is Trezor, main reason is that Trezor is 100% open source from software to hardware, and SatoshiLab remains independent from external fundings.
Ledger Nano S' security unit is not open source due to NDA and they accept external funding, meaning more difficult to keep neutral. Only my humble opinion.

This is from my real life experience using a hardware wallet for almost 6 moths now. I bought a product from Ledger Wallet and I'm very grateful that I choose their product. It is very secure and their support is always available (through their Reddit handler). They also supported BCH (as they should) and the process of acquiring it went smooth. You can never go wrong in choosing Ledger Wallet as your first hardware wallet for crypto. Suggestion: buy Ledger Nano S.

I read all the replies and the trezor really is # 1. Yes trezor really is the leader when it comes to the safety of our bitcoins. I also like it to be reproduced and here I put my bitcoins. Not only bitcoins can we place these top altcoins as well. Hopefully next year I will buy

Main competition here is between ledgerwallet and trezor I am sure. They are both amazing hardware wallets which both have heaps of features between them.

They also also super safe and if your getting a hardware wallet, would recommend getting either one of them or not getting a hardware wallet at all. If your willing to spend the extra dosh, then I would definitely recommend a trezor.

Did it with  pi 2, it was very convenient to use, though a lot of lags :((

Dang, the Pi2 is pretty fast I thought.  What do you believe the bottleneck was?

I would suggest Ledger Wallet HW.1; I am using it to store BTC and BCC, so far I haven't encountered any issues regarding downtime or anything like that. Also, before your funds could be transferred somewhere else, you must key in your hard pass code which is stored in a separate physical card. I would really recommend it to those who store huge amount of BTCs and BCCs.

Here's an idea:

• Buy a blank single-sided PCB (preferably with as fireproof a substrate as you can get), etchant, and a resist pen
• Write your recovery seed on the board with the resist pen
• Etch the board; (optionally) clean off the resist

You used to be able to buy this stuff at Radio Shack.  I think you can still buy them from Fry's; otherwise, you're probably looking at mail order.

You'll end up with your recovery seed in copper on fiberglass and epoxy (at a minimum).  Probably not as fireproof as CryptoSteel, but there's usually some fire retardant in the substrate.  There may be other substrates that are more fireproof.

Don't farm this work out to a PCB fab house.  The idea is to keep your recovery seed secret; embedding it in a gerber that's ultimately emailed to Won Hung Lo's PCB Shop in Shenzhen is doing it wrong.

For better fire resistance, get a couple slabs of steel, drill holes through them to bolt them together, and sandwich the PCB in between.  Perhaps a couple of smallish AR500 targets (available at any gun show) would work.

i use ledger nano. i really like that product, maybe they are much more better hardware wallets than ledger nano. but i think the security level of ledger nano is enough. the price performance of that product is wonderful.

what will happen for future fork or network evolution like Lighting network?

I just wonder how can we trust in these devices?. I know those have been used for long, but that's not just enough...
I want to know which one of these hardware wallets is completely open-source and open-hardware; that's the only way I can trust them

wallets are secure, offline devices. They store your private keys offline so they can't be hacked, and  provide extra security  the hardware
wallet is nearly impossible to hack.

I know everything was already said here, but I just want to say that I have the Ledger Nano S and I'm super happy with it. There are a few issues and devs are working on updates and better software, but overall it's a wonderful device. Can you trust them completely? really 100% certain there's no backdoor somewhere somehow? The unfortunate answer is no.
