Title: Free Market solution to organ shortages
Post by: GideonGono on June 18, 2011, 09:05:40 PM
Ever since I found out about the revolutionary potential of bitcoin, I've been ruminating on how the hypothetical AnCapistan will deal with certain issues.

After reading this article about a 17y.o. that sold his kidney to buy an iPad 2  :o - http://thenextweb.com/apple/2011/06/02/chinese-student-reportedly-sells-his-kidney-to-buy-an-ipad-2/ -I was thinking that if I needed a transplant I'd rather not get it from a kid who might not know the implications of his decisions.

So I was wondering if the market can come up with a more "humane" way of providing organs for those in need. It would be possible for a car/life insurance company to offer reduced premiums in exchange for your organs if you die in a car crash. Depending on the price of organs as dictated by the market, you might not even need to pay car/life insurance anymore. This could be very beneficial to young people as they have relatively higher insurance premiums.

What do you think of this idea?

With no rules against it, A headless human clone farm wouldn't be too far-fetched, or for that matter, we're almost at the point where we can grow (or print! Google 'clemson university bio printer') your organs to spec.

Printing organs ? Why not? It is better than long clone process of them. Faster for shure.

thats how economics and society works.
as long as society unaware existece of other ways in human healthcare, including sources of transpantology, other than bughering kidnapped/thanksgiven/lost people for "good cause", biotech not advance seriously. beyond butching era. to something both efficient/customisable-adaptable and economically/ethically-efficient. than in present state.
IF someone care enough to invest OR opress this branch of R&D/Production.

According to national surveys, more than 85% of the public support organ donation, but only one third of all possible organs (those that can be used) are ever donated. The demand for transplant organs today exceeds the supply. This is the reason that the free market would make transplantations more affordable to the poor. Cause of heavy amount of money the organ are not so much affordable. So free market only can give solution to the shortages.
